2011 Overclock.net Case mod Competition Information thread

We are pleased to present the 2011 edition of the Overclock.net Case Mod Competition. We hope that this year's competition will be even bigger/better than the last

We will be having three classes of modders for this competition (Professional, Intermediate, and Amateur), with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize for each class. In addition, we will be awarding prizes in several special categories based on criteria such as "Most Unique", "Back from the Grave", etc.

Rules
  • This competition is open to all Overclock.net members and staff
  • All modders must select an intended class that best represents their modding skills/experience when registering; the staff reserves the right to move builders so please select accordingly
  • Detailed, Picture-rich logs must be kept
  • No obtrusive watermarks/image overlays; a simple watermark with your handle is fine as long as it does not detract attention from the image itself
  • No excessive pimping of other sites in the text/photos; listing sites where (or users from whom) components were purchased is acceptable
  • No "sponsored" builds allowed
  • Only one project per contestant
  • Projects/logs being posted on other forums/sites will be disqualified
  • All uploaded media should be kept private for the duration of the build phase of the contest. If using sites like YouTube or image hosts, ensure that you have selected the "Private" option when uploading your media
    • Please also provide viewing access to the competition staff
  • Mods must be started no earlier than January 01, 2011
  • All registrations must be made by February 01, 2011
  • All mods/logs must be completed by July 01, 2011
  • Only completed entries will be eligible for cash prizes
  • Cash prizes will be issued via PayPal
  • Rules are subject to change at any time
  • By participating in the contest, you agree to follow all the aforementioned rules to the best of your ability and recognize that violation of any of the rules can result in your removal from the contest solely at the discretion of the Overclock.net administration

Judging
  • Each class will have both judges choice and peoples choice (popular vote) prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Here is a build i did earlier this year

It was my first watercooling setup, and the rig i would be doing for this competition would be my second?

As far as I know, you can enter for one division, and then you can talk to Rado about being bumped up or down if you see fit closed to the end of your build. Also, you can browse previous years competitions to see which you would want to enter.

I don't see why not, it is about the mod not the hardware inside. If someone modded a 360 case with a mini-itx system in it there wouldn't be any problems. There's no rule about X86 only so I can't see anything wrong with your proposal though you might want to pm radodrill about it.

Game consoles are essentially special purpose computers, so I don't see why they couldn't be entered.

Each class will have both judges choice and peoples choice (popular vote) prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Popular votes ?
Only the Registered Entrants can vote or is an open voting ?
How much this voting will influence the final score ?

Can I register now, even if I won't be getting the hardware and modding it until February-March? I'd love to enter the competition, but I'm nearly certain I won't have all my stuff by the 1st of February.

-Thanks!

That's only the deadline for declaring your intent to participate in the competition; it does not dictate when you should purchase supplies or when to build.
