Confused about sound card inputs..

So I'm buying a new pair of audiophile headphones (and building a whole new rig overall) and looking to get a good soundcard/amp combo. I've looked into the Xonar card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829132014

I'm a total noob when it comes to consumer audio equipment and need some help here.

What I want to be able to do is

1) Connect headphones to it (obviously)
2) Connect a separate standalone mic to it (for gaming)
3) Connect my TV's DVR to it ( I don't plan on using my TV's speakers)
4) Connect a 2.1 speaker system to it eventually in the future ( I'd like to be able to have the option to have both the headphones and speakers connected at the same time, if not I can live with it.)

I'm just lost when I look at the sound card's I/O plate and don't know how I would go about accomplishing what I want or what I would need as far as cords/cabling to connect the devices.

You only have one line in so you have to use either the MIC or connect DVR

1. Headphones to Headphones Out or L/R Out with the included adapter
2. Mic to Line IN via adapter
3. TV DVR to Line IN via adapter
4. 2.1 Speakers to the L/R Out OR get a 3.5mm Stereo Splitter for your headphones and speakers

I'm confused because it says "Line in" and "Mic In" as if they are two separate ports. What exactly is "line in"?

What if I use a front panel mic in port?
