Monitor randomly goes into stand-by mode

Thread Starter
I recently upgraded to a GTX 460 from a 9800GT (my monitor never randomly went into standy-by mode then)

I'll be playing a game and suddenly my computer will freeze for a second or two and then it goes into stand-by mode. When it comes back, my game would be frozen and I would have to kill the process. Is this due to a faulty video card or what? The temperatures look fine when comparing the temperatures to my 9800GT.

The temperatures never exceed 60C. Driver version: 260.99. And now my monitor just did the same thing and I'm not even gaming.

They don't even exceed 60 when gaming? If so, then that's certainly not the culprit. :/

Were you using this installed driver with the 9800 GT?

(I am basically out of good questions lol)

I actually don't know if I was using an older driver or not. Would defective cards ever cause this sort of problem? I want to rule it out so I don't have to be worried about it

Edit: And it just did it again.

So when you installed this card, did you essentially download the latest driver from NVIDIA's website and then install it?

Yeah. I kept reinstalling the drivers over and over before because my card wasn't running at full speed but it was fixed by reseating it.

Oh. Then if I may, I'd like to try something just to see if it solves it. It involves using Driver Sweeper.
  1. Install Driver Sweeper: http://phyxion.net/phocadownload/DS/...eper_2.7.5.exe
  2. Delete C:\\NVIDIA (this is safe, and I recommend it in order to avoid dealing with an automatic re-installation when rebooting after uninstalling)
  3. Uninstall "NVIDIA Graphics Driver 260.99" from within the Windows control panel (also uninstall the HD Audio Driver if you have it as well as that 3D Stereoscopic driver thing if you have that)
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode (hold F8 when the motherboard is about to load Windows, and then wait until it lets you choose Safe Mode)
  5. Once in Safe Mode, open Driver Sweeper
  6. Choose "NVIDIA - Display"
  7. Click "Clean"
  8. When it asks you if you want to reboot, say yes.
  9. When you're finished booting back into the normal mode of Windows, install 260.99
  10. Use the "Custom (Advanced)" install option
  11. Select "Perform clean install" (near the bottom)
  12. De-select things you don't need, like perhaps "HD Audio Driver" and "3D Vision Driver"
  13. Click "Next"
  14. Reboot

If it continues to happen after all this, then I wouldn't know what to try next.

What about the driver that Windows 7 installs? Should I restart after that and then install the new drivers?
