Enough for 4 GTS 450's - Page 2

I'm jealous, by the way. And GTS250s are nice cards, but if you want bang for buck in old cards, the 9800GX2 is a god. I have two of them that were running on a celeron CPU, and they pull 10k ppd each for about 90 bucks. Epic win... but hot epic win.

I would go with

this board (I have seen it go for $150 new on sale AR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130274

AMD 555 can be found for $60 and has a very high chance of unlocking to a quad

4 or 5 x gts450's which I have seen as low as $70 AR

All about looking for good deals then jumping on them

with a dual core amd processor of at least 3.1. Any particular processor you guys recommend, I dont know much about AMD, last time I build an AMD rig was at least 8 years ago.

Are the GTX 460's decent for folding? I was originally going to go with gtx570's starting with two and adding the other two a few months later. But he said the power and cost compared to the gts 450's werent worth it. Any comments?
I was in the same boat as you. I picked up the 790fx-gd70 and an AMD X2 250 (time will tell if the cpu is powerfull enough). Frys just had that mobo for $60 after MIR, $100 before.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-223-_-Product

Then just pack that rig with GTS 450s. Thats what I am doing, atm I have 2 cards in it. You could run 5 cards in there. Put 2 of the single slot 450s in, one in the top x16 and one in the x1 slot.

Set that up for bigadv. I'd look into the 9800GX2s if you have the psu to handle them. They get 10k each and are GPU2 which is nice since it doesn't put a hurt on the bigadv much.

If you dont want to mess with the GX2s, you can pick up some GTX 260s for pretty cheap on OCN. Its all in what your budget can afford.

Not much hope for CPU Folding... but who needs SMP when you've got that many 450s?

my i3 is getting 4K ppd with 2 450's, an extra 2 isn't going to kill it

4k? Aren't i3s dual core? Or do they have HT?

Thread Starter
looks like I'll probably go with that 790x board once frys gets some more instock, along with the gts450's.

As far as the i7940 and rampage ii extreme, I'll probably do bigadv on it and my current gtx280 with some more 260's off ocn. Once i upgrade to a gtx 580 in my main rig.

gah, folding is addictive

Thank you for the large, obnoxious arrow. A "yes" would also have been fine.
