Sound Upgrade! - Page 2

In my HTPC I'm running the Xonar D1(PCI ver. of Xonar DX), I do like it a lot...

In my previous HTPC I had a Xonar D2(PCI ver of Xonar D2X), and I swear it sounded better that the D1...

The Xonar D2X is about $170 or so depending but I think you would like it.

I'm not gonna lie for some reason I have never listened to music on my PCs and I have no idea why.

If you can, you might be able to get a solid external DAC with a dedicated headphone amp within your price range. You could also try getting a cheap receiver and use your HDMI to output the sound. (However I'm currently having problems with the second idea ).

Even if you don't have the "best of the best" headphones that necessarily need an amp you could always leave yourself open to such an option with an external DAC + amp.
