3DMark06 @ 22,734 w/Core i3 550 @ 4.56ghz & HD6870

NEW RIG
I bought this last week and am really satisfied so far:

Intel Core i3 550 - $129.99
Gigabyte H55 CFX Motherboard - FREE with CPU Purchase @ CompUSA
4GB GSKILL RipJaw 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 - $64.99
Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme - $64.99
Radeon HD6870 - $199.99 (After MIR)

TOTAL = $460.00

CLOCKS
CPU @ 4.56ghz
GPU @ 975/1125mhz
RAM @ 1520mhz 7-8-7-24

TEMPS
CPU @ 27C Idle / 68C Load @ 50% Fan Speed
GPU @ 39C Idle / 68C Load @ 35% Fan Speed

BENCHES
Super PI 1MB = 9 seconds
3D Mark 06 = 22,734
WEI @ 7.3 CPU, 7.9/7.9 Graphics

Still trying to push her farther - but I'm @ 1.4v VCORE, 1.25v GPU CORE, 1.68v Memory already biggrin.gif

ANY TIPS?
BCLK seems stuck @ 190. GPU stuck @ 975/1125. Even with more volts I can't get stable. Tried messing with QPI Ratio & Voltage too - no luck. Tried slowing the RAM way down - no luck.

SSD
Also got my first SSD for home: AData 64GB Sandforce 1200. Decent little drive for $108 free shipping - but it spikes from 130MB/sec - 230MB/sec like a roller coaster. I am enjoying the 0.2ms access time though!

Im impressed with those clocks on the CPU. I dont think you will get too much more out of the 6870. Most reviews I see seem to top out about where you have reaached.

Thanks. I can get into Windows @ 4.8ghz but I can't finish 3DMark06 or Prime95 without a BSOD or some sort of crash smile.gif

I had my Intel Pentium E6700 @ 4.05ghz stable on a 4 year old EVGA 650i Ultra mobo. Was hitting 14k 3DMark06 on that rig, but for the price, I just couldn't pass up the FREE motherboard deal @ CompUSA last week!

That's a nice OC on your E8500 as well biggrin.gif Your rig probably gets around the same 3DMark06 as I am getting?

Set the multiplier to 23, and try for 205 bclk.

Tried 23x 200/205/210 - Not stable frown.gif
Tried 24x 195/200 - Not stable frown.gif

What is the best thing to raise or lower for higher BCLK stability?

I'm pretty sure your E8600 6MB cache will nearly tie my i3 550 4MB cache (or get really close since im OC'ed a bit higher). Also, your 5870 is slightly faster then my 6870 as a single card biggrin.gif Would be nice to see how close it is!

I really only upgraded because (a) I got a free motherboard with the CPU and (b) the 6870 was covering all my SATA ports on my EVGA 650i Ultra motherboard!

Oh, it can go far. I had my parents' 540 do 4.6GHz LinX stable.

54046111400v.jpg

The only thing they suffer from is their weak IMC. Some can do better than others but they won't match i7.

*Edit*

@LiquidKaos, try changing your memory ratio. From my screenshot, you can see I had to lower it a bit in order to get it to post.
