Q6600 Overclocking

Thread Starter
While I do have a powerful system I have absolutely no knowledge of overclocking and would really appreciate if someone could assist, I've been looking into overclocking for awhile now and I just can't figure it out.

Okay so I wasn't upfront with what I have tried. I've gone into BIO's and when I go to manually set the stuff it never gets past booting up the screen stays black.

for your cpu, the best way to overclock is to slowly raise the front side bus until it becomes unstable. than raise the cpu core voltage. keep in mind your front side bus is directly connected to your ram speed as well.

what motherboard do you have as it determines what OC options you have

Good you got a G0 stepping.

That board SHOULD let you got to 400x9 on your Q6600 which is 3.6GHz.

For that you may need between 1.45-1.55v (depending on your VID). But as the previous poster stated, up your FSB till it is unstable then up the vcore.

I have no knowledge of P35 chipsets but you probably are going to need to up your NB voltage.

Other than that is the same as overclocking on my board.

Here are the settings I used for 3.6GHz:
Q6600 is G0 stepping

MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
Robust Graphics Booster ...............: [Auto]
CPU Clock Ratio ...........................:9x
Fine CPU Clock Ratio.....................:
CPU Frequency .............................:3.6

(G)MCH Frequency Latch...............: 400

CAS Latency Time........................: 5
tRCD ......................................... 5
tRP'........................................... 5
tRAS.......................................... 18
Advanced Timing Control

Same here
Motherboard Voltage Control

CPU
CPU Vcore….……….........................: 1.48125
CPU Termination…..... ......................:1.3
CPU PLL………………….....................:1.5
CPU Reference.…………........................:0.760V [Auto]
MCH/ICH
MCH Core……………....1.4
MCH Reference….…….Auto
MCH/DRAM Ref.…...... auto
ICH I/O……………….....Auto
ICH Core…………...……Auto
DRAM
DRAM Voltage ……....2.2 (2.1 normal) (this is DDR2 ram, it runs higher voltage than your DDR3)
res is auto

Try comparing settings with mine (I don't know what your vid is on your chip so I have no idea how much CPU voltage to suggest) you should be able to hit 3.4 to 3.6 ^_^

Run Prime95 on torture test mode for at LEAST 8 hours to make sure it is stable in just about anything. Run it on Small FFT mode.
What is your ram running at right now? Try to keep it at or below its rated speed unless you want some more complications for your overclock. But that is easy to fix with loosing timings and upping the voltage.

No it's not. 95 celius is 20-25 degree over the limit wich is 75 i think. Your Vcore is probably too high or your cooling suck.. You should drop your vcore lowest as possible for stable OC. If it's overheating again. OC it to 3.3-3.4GHz. Your cooler is too cheap for an higher clock i think. Every cores are over the limit. lucky thats still alive. Don't OC when you absolutely don't know how.

you should read this, could be usefull to you. thats how i learned to OC.
