2 x GTX275 in SLI with i5 2500K

Thread Starter
My mb just broke and finally i have a reason to upgrade my pc.
I will get SB 2500K with a good mb and the best ram available. I would like to keep my 275's for maybe another year. They are from EVGA and are the 896mb version.
Will my 275's be able to keep up? I play mostly F1 2010 and Call of Duty. Of course, I want to play them with as much detail as possible at 1080.
I use my pc only for gaming. Are the two games thT i play most more cpu or gpu demanding?

So you're saying that dx9-10 is more cpu and dx11 gpu dependant.
I will get a better picture once sb is out about prices etc.
My budget is tight and not sure if a new gpu is possible.

I was first considering going 1366 with an evga x58 ftw3, i7 950 and 6gb of ddr3 ram.
Decisions decisions.......

Well SB is easily 4% faster than a 930 clock for clock, and SB seems to be hitting much higher clocks on air than a 930 ever could.

Your only loss vs 1366 is the 4% loss on x8 x8 vs x16 x16 and that 4% is with two gtx 480's, so the loss is probably even less for gtx 275s.

You could also get a board with a NF200 chip in it to allow x16 x16, slightly slower than 1366 x16 x16 but your cpu will be faster than a 930 by quite a far margin if you're hitting 4.8Ghz or higher.

275s don't support DX11. You need new GPUs for that, which is why he said no for DX11. Your processor is more or less irrelevant when it comes to that.

Also, when it comes to the x58/p67 debate, for gaming, you'd probably be better off with the p67 and SB, depending on prices. You don't need 8 threads to game on, the 4 a 2500k provides is plenty.

No, definitely not. Get yourself a 2500K, you had it right the first time.

SMT has NO impact on gaming whatsoever so he might as well save some cash and by a 2500K + Gigabyte UD4.

Great, some good info.
I have not realized that prices have dropped so much for GPU's....
I paid C$275 each in Spring 2009 in Canada.
Are there any benchmarks out that compare two gtx275 in SLI with a single gtx460, 470 or even 480?
Just curious if I can wait with a new GPU until nvidia comes out with their new Kepler cards. Will they going to be available this year?
