[Toms] 12 Gaming Power Supplies Compared - Page 3

I don't care what Tom's, or anyone says, I will never purchase another Antec product as long as they keep making half-assed products. Antec's PSU's better than Seasonic/Corsair? PFT. Right.

My Antec(s) have been champs. The one in my sig rig is the one that was plagued with horrible cap problems(the 500-550 Truepower's) and yet it is still going after all these years. They had a bad stint of using low quality caps at one point, but they seem to have learned from their mistakes and putting out fairy nice PSU's relative to the money paid for them. I have probably 10-12 of them in family/friends computers and only one has crapped out on me so far.

Being better than Seasonic and some of the other high end brands, no, I wouldn't go that far, heh. Though not near as bad as they were back in the bad cap days. Of course, I have had great luck with PSU's in general though. The other PSU in my sig rig, crappy Hec-X, has been pushed to the limits for over a year and a half and is still chugging along. I may just have good luck smile.gif

It makes it sound like it only works on an i7 system or something. Though I suppose I would do the same thing if I owned the company. Profits are all that matter and this type of marketing probably improves it.

My RAM is "i5 optimised" rolleyes.gif AKA XMP Profiles that don't work properly.

Hey guess what. All of Tom's testing is done by a third party. Namely CoolerMaster, at their old lab in Germany.

Conflict of interest? Naaaaahh.

While Tom's article is a steaming pile of fail, Antec has an excellent power supply line-up right now. Several of their power supplies are made by SeaSonic. Namely the TruePower New units, and older Earthwatts units. They also work with Delta Electronics, which is the largest power supply manufacturer in the world and has some of the best build quality and most engineering experience. That team-up has led to the High Current Pro power supplies which are among the best ever made, and the High Current Gamer series, which look to be very solid mid-range choices. They also did a few other units.

Really, the only PSUs in Antec's current line-up to be avoided are the Basiq units, and maybe the TruePower Quattro 850W if you're picky.
