FAIL for so many reasons lol

1) So maybe the chip runs cooler. Does that mean our GPUs are going to magically start behaving too? I don't think so.

2) The people who want aftermarket coolers are OVERCLOCKERS. THEY WILL PUSH IT FAR ENOUGH TO MAKE IT BURN

AFTERMARKET FTW

Another reason not to worry: The author of this article claimed that the era of the desktop was over in 2008.

Yeaaahhhh XD

Using horrible, upsettingly flawed logic nonetheless. This guy seems to be a bit of a douche.

As the author of that article and longtime support or OCN, I'm a little surprised at the (offsite) comments. But then again, maybe I shouldn't be.

I wonder how hie endorsers, FrozenCPU, Xiggy, CoolerMaster feel about him saying its the end of aftermarket cooling? LULZ
There was a link to an actual screenshot in the article.

I've got four P67 motherboards all running AIDA64 beta made just for Sandy Bridge. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing.

I can do 5.2ghz easy, but not even with a hyper 212+ in IBT it was pushing 100C+ and throttling, so yes at idle the CPU consumes 20 watts and at load 95 watts but it can exceed TDP for a long time, so yea you can but you wont be at 5.2ghz in anything you are doing.
Um, I was there along with 14 other media guests, in addition to all the ASUS and Intel staff. Plenty of photos were taken, and plenty of info will be avialable after the NDA lifts. Where were you at this event?

Thanks for listing the source, which allows others to actually read what I said. As it turns out, I was correct: Desktop PC Platform: Statistical Obituary. Desktop sales (which is not just personal desktops, but also servers and professional workstations) was surpassed by notebooks that year, and continues to decline.

As for GPUs, they weren't part of the discussion. If you had read the article, it was all about the CPU cooler aftermarket.

Laptops are terrible, but then people do stupid things all the time, like buy xboxes and ps3s.

I hate this tread, it must stop now

Also please bring back games designed for windows so I'm not playing horrible ports of terrible systems I wouldn't have built back in 2006.

There are just some things we can't change. Games will continue to be developed for their most profitable platforms first, which means console before PC. Call of Duty Black Ops is an excellent example: DirectX 9 game with no DX11 support so it will play fine on PS3/XBOX.

Excellent point indeed, which is why I play BF:BC2

Which is also a port, but a better one... I guess?

Maybe all that really needs to happen is for programmers to stop being bad, then all will be well?

You pwned alot of people with this post, but you gotta realize some people here are obsessed with cooling a little too much as well as the money they have invested in it.

When u are spending more on cooling your CPU then your actual CPU then u have problems.
