You should stablize that first and then work on your undervolt.
The qpi isn't too bad on the 980s because you only need a minimum 1.5x the dram speed (unlike bloomfield needing min. 2x), 2000Mhz memory isn't too hard on it.
I haven't looked at what XMP does with my 980x before, after seeing what it did with the vtt voltage on a 920 i wouldn't use it again...

I wouldn't be surprised if it treats it like a 920.

At 1.2V stable with Prime95 13.5 hours. Trying lower. Went for broke at 1.15V. So far no errors for 30 minutes on small FFT.

Thanks.

Currently on 10 hours with Prime small FFT stable. Temps dropped a few degrees. Wonder how low this thing will go. Wish I knew what was realistic. According to Intel specifications it shows a VID between 0.800V-1.375V. Does that mean this CPU should technically be able to run at 0.8V at 3.33GHz?

There was one guy who had an i7 at around 0.8v but I think it was a 920, definitely not a 980x.

As for the VID, that's something that I've never bothered to understand, although most people on here will know about it.

920's are known for their overclockability and low VIDs, generally the lower the stock vid, the lower you can keep the volts when you OC.

Ahhh. Now I remember. Incredible what falls out of your brain when you haven't done something for a couple years. Have to pull out Everest and see where mine is at. Doesn't look like a lot of people have tested how much they could undervolt a 980x so doesn't seem to be any baselines from others to work off of. Thanks for the refresher on that item.

This processor is INSANE!!!!!!!

I was stable at 1V with Prime95 small FFT for 14 hours. Right now on 0.9875V and running for an hour. Anything lower and it either wouldn't post or Windows would blue screen. This processor at least on the low end either seems to work or fails. Haven't had a failure in Prime yet if I can get into Windows at a particular voltage. If this works for 24 hours will try blend.

So far this exercise has dropped about 20C off my temps at full load with a stock cooler. Runs now when idle at 17C on the coolest core.
