Upgrade?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about upgrading, but not sure if I should stay on the waiting train and hold out.

I've done a number of upgrades to the system in the last 4 years and it's been running solid as a Media and Gaming pc.

Lancool K62 Mid-Tower
Corsair HX620 Modular PSU
Asus P5K-E Wifi
Q6600 65nm G0 @ 3.2 ghz w/ Dark Knight cooler
8GB Gskill 5-5-5-15
1GB XFX Radeon 5770 GPU
Asus D2 Sound Card
60GB Vertex SSD, 2x 300+GB old 7200RPM drives.
Scythe LED Fan Controller + DVD Burner

The weakest link seems to be my LGA775 DDR2 motherboard with 65nm Quad.

Would upgrading to AMD 1090T be much of an upgrade from Q6600?

I'd say that the lga 775 socket is fading though a 1090t is not the way to go. If you can afford it I'd say get Sandy Bridge which comes out soon ans will be quite good, the AM3+ socket is also due later this year making an AM3 mobo a bit of a waste. Also the combo of your CPU and GPU brands doesn't affect the performance. But yeah just wait for Sandy Bridge.

The waiting game can last forever, and really upgrading is to your fancy. If you don't feel any need to upgrade, then don't, and if you do, you do. However the least you can do is wait for Sandy Bridge (it's quite literally a week away). The 1090T/1100T, though probably an upgrade is not worth it when Bulldozer from AMD is going to be here before the end of the year.

The rig you currently have is a good media and moderate gaming system, so don't worry too much about it. Your PSU doesn't need an upgrade unless you plan on going SLI/CF.

Oh and as for the whole pairing thing, it's only because ATI doesn't exist anymore (as a name, it's AMD all the way), so obviously they'd prefer you use their parts all over, but no, there's no clear advantage/disadvantage to certain pairings of CPU/GPU

Wait until at least Bulldozer benchmarks come out before deciding. You might also want to wait until middle of the year. By then, we'd probably know for sure if high-end Sandy Bridge will be released as well as Ivy Bridge release dates.

As for the pairing thing, if you plan on going SLI, then Intel is the way to go. Nvidia is out of the chipset business and I doubt AMD will license SLI for their chipsets.

Sorry to bump old thread but I'm in the middle of upgrading now. Turning system into a high end video and graphics rendering machine as well as some gaming.

in the mail or arrived
-Sandy 2600k cpu
-corsair h70 cooler
-Corsair HVX1000 Modular PSU
-2 used XFX 5770 for crossfire with 3x 57700
- xfire bridges
-ArtiClean 1+2 + AS 5
-Komputerbay 16GB w/spreaders 1300mhz DDR3
-P67 DELUXE REV 3.0 back-ordered from TD.

Would of really liked the MAXIMUS or EVGA Classified if they ever are out.
Internet says in the next week we should see more P67 motherboard revision releases?

What's the state of Sata 6 SSDs ?
I'm running some 5-7 year old 7200rpm drives for storage, and a 60gb ocz turbo for OS.
What is best options for raid storage and ultimate speed and efficiency? Vertex 3 coming soon?
I've run out of room on my 60gb 1st gen SSD. And my other storage drives are slow now compared to what i know is now available.

I'll be keeping the K62 Case, some drives especially ssd, Xonar D2 Sound card, etc.
