My i5 Build (Help)

Thread Starter
$30 ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro

$260 DIAMOND 5850PE51G Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI

$120 GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 Motherboard

$90 Rosewill Xtreme Series RX750-S-B 750W

$44 OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

$120 AZZA Solano 1000 Black

$209 Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156

$147 Acer G235HAbd 23'' WideScreen LCD monitor

$10 Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

Total Cost~$1030
before S&H

Does this build look good? Will i run into any bottle-necking issues? Moreover, is my PSU sufficient for this build?..Note I have a WD HDD 250GB already and 2 DvD drives as well. Is the GPU overkill? I'm trying to get decent frame-rates at near max or max settings on Black Ops.
Thanks

p.s. Currently I have an ATI 47xx 512 Mb that I have yet to reach full potential during OC because my current CPU and mobo are bottle-necking....Should I wait to buy a gpu?

If you havent bought the parts yet you might want to wait until sandy bridge drops in about a week

http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...1155-club.html

but if you have it will play black ops at high settings because mine does and yours seems to be a bit more powerful. maybe not at full 1080p, but im not sure.

NO! Stop. Don't buy the OCZ gold, or the 5850. The former has a terrible reputation and the 5850 is technically obsolete. I don't know anything about that PSU, so I'll let someone else comment.

Also, an Arctic Freezer 7 PRO is NOT nearly enough for a quad core. If you want to overclock, look at the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ of the Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B

Look at GSkill RAM and the 6870. If you want an AMD card. If you want Nvidia, look at the 470.

Also, tosh.0 is right. Sandy Bridge will be out this week, it might be worth the wait.

EDIT: Not black ops, tosh, but my rig maxes everything I play at 1080p, with x4 - x8 anti aliasing. Bad company 2, Stalker COP, etc.

As other have mentioned, consider waiting for Sandy Bridge. Unless you already own that PSU, I suggest looking elsewhere. I'd trust a Corsair 650TX more than I would that Rosewill. Heck, if you stick to midrange cards, I reckon even a good quality 500W PSU should be enough. Emphasis on good quality. There's a big difference between an Apex 500W and a Seasonic 500W.

So, I should wait for sandy bridge because there will presumably be a price drop in the 760 or it is so good that I should buy a sandy? (as long as they are comparable in price i will consider it, but I'm already over my price limit ><)

Also is this PSU good enough for an ATI radeon HD 6870?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139010

new GPU: Sapphire 6870

New Ram

Also, Any rec's on Thermal Paste?
This is what I'm getting so far

KF Thanks for the advice so far
Keep it coming

You should wait since Sandy Bridge will offer increased performance at the same price. Intel doesn't really drop prices on their processors.

That power supply is excellent and should be good enough even for dual HD 6870's.

To be honest I would stick with the 5850 over the 6870. The 6870 is the "newer" of the two, and it's very slightly better than the 5850, but with 5850s as low as $170 I see no real reason to buy the 6870 that you listed.

Whatever you do don't buy that Rosewill PSU that's in the original post, there are WAY better PSUs in that price bracket. The corsair you listed is a nice PSU, probably more than you need for this build.

I'd wait on a CPU/cooler until the new chips, as others have suggested.
