Overcocking E6750

post #1 of 16

had this cpu a while and been running OC'd @ 3.6ghz stable for a while, but I recently upgraded to water cooling and was hoping I could get it a bit higher.

This is my system

CPUZ upload

temps after 12 hours of PC usage idle and gaming for a couple hours (After new watercooling was setup);

I have the FSB right now at 455 and I tried 460, but I get a BSOD after being in windows for a bit. I think it might be the RAM being clocked too high, because I have a drop-down list of ram speeds I can set, and I can only pick from that list, I assume because it's linked(?) or the ratio(?) needs changing, but I couldn't see any options like that. anyway, with the FSB at 460, the lowest ram speed I can set is something like 1150mhz (can't really remember) and I think that might be too high and causing the crash?

CPU voltage is set at 1.4750 and ram at 2.1, everything else auto

You need to set FSB strap to 400, then you can run your memory with 1:1 divider, for example if your FSB is 460 then memory can be run at 920 MHz.

My GOLDEN E6750 G0 hit 3.6GHz on stock VID 1.275V (LOAD) and needed 1.375V for 3.9GHz..

For 4GHz it needed 1.45V (LOAD) and top FSB with 7x multi was 533MHz ROCK SOLID (could`nt go higher as my old 800MHz Apacer was holding me back)..

For 533MHz FSB it needed:

RAM freq= 1066MHz
STRAP=AUTO
vFSB=1.36
CPU GTL=0.65x
PLL=1.60V
vNB=1.36

CHEERS..

thanks, I tried this. will running my memory lower than 1100mhz not be a performance decrease? or is the ability to OC the CPU a bit higher worth it?

Do NOT OC with AUTO settings for vNB,vPLL,vFSB,vRAM as P5Q motherboards tend to seriously overvolt those components when used AUTO settings and OCed..

Try my settings from above and go for even 500MHz FSB if your cooling is up to it..

You can try 500MHz FSB with 7x CPU multiplier to see if it works for you..

Run your RAM 1:1 with FSB ..

I see, thanks for the heads up.

I seem to have 2 settings for CPU GTL voltage, should I set both at 0.650?

thanks

Yes set them both at 0.65x..

EDIT: Also set :

Ai Transaction Booster to MANUAL

Performance Level=10 (This option will appear when Ai Tr. Booster is on MANUAL)

CHEERS..

ok, I can boot fine with 500FSB, any higher and it won't POST, any tips?
thing is, isn't 500*7 only 3.5ghz? I can get 3.6 with 450*8, so what's the point in doing this differently for a lower clock in the end?

Also set :

vFSB=1.40
vNB=1.40
vSB=1.20V
PCIE/SATA=1.60V

CPU GTL= 0.65 (but also try 0.63x on both lanes)

Ai Transaction Booster to MANUAL

Performance Level=10 (This option will appear when Ai Tr. Booster is on MANUAL)

CPU & PCIE Spread spectrum = DISABLED

CPU & NB skew= AUTO

When pushing HIGH FSB to find your system FSB limit always go with lower CPU multi so you don`t have to worry about Vcore and heat..

500x7 is much faster for the system`s overall performance than 450x8..

On LGA 775 every FSB MHz counts and 50MHz FSB is A LOT..

And your RAM would run at 1000MHz and with 500MHz FSB it would give you almost 9GB/s READ bandwidth..(you can check RAM bandwidth with Aida or Everest program)..
