OC'ing 955BE + M4A77TD MOBO help

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm new to overclocking, I've read a lot of guides, asked tech friends and none of them seem to be helping me much. Been trying to overclock in BIOS and I can't get anything stable.
I always get a overclocking failed message whenever I save any overclocking changes in the BIOS and restart my PC. The only overclocking method that works is using the AI Tuner Overclocking. I can go to 10% which is the max, but then it eventually BSODs after a few hours, and I always get an overclocking failed message whenever I shutdown and start back up using this.

It's really weird, apparently I should be able to overclock my PC fine, it's liquid-cooled and meant to overclock http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227234 but it's not working too well for me at all. Can anyone help me? What are the right step by steps I should do?

Forgot to add: I want to go step by step in increases, but my maximum goal is to get a stable 4.2ghz on my Phenom II x4 955. Thanks.

I think it is the 8GB of ram you have. 955 don't oc well with 4 DIMM or 4 sticks of memory.

Try dropping your memory divider to 1333 or try 2 sticks in the blue memory slots for 1600+

Really? I never knew that, that's odd... Why would the manufacture say its overclockable? And ok, thanks.

Okay, so it worked. I decreased the ram to 1333mhz, and I was able to overclock to 3.6ghz no problem. I'm at 3.8ghz now, seems to be stable. I tried to go a step up, and push 4ghz but then I BSOD'd. From what I know you're supposed to increase the cpu voltage, I increased it from 1.4v to 1.425v and then I just got an overclocking failed message along with a voltage failed message... So now I'm back and stuck at 3.8ghz, what now?

Edit: NVM, I have CPU voltage set to auto in BIOS, Core Temp shows it at 1.4v, while Hardware Monitor and CPU-Z shows it at 1.47v. Seems like 3.8ghz is my max, anything higher I just get blue screens. Any ideas or tweaks to reach 4.2ghz stable? Or at least 4ghz?

Go in steps of 100mhz. If you want 3.9ghz, try increasing your CPU voltage to 1.5v, and try that. If that is stable, ie. run a test like prime95 for about 30 minutes. http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205 . To reach 4.0ghz, you will probably need to increase your CPU/NB voltage also. You can see what others have done here. http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/499526-official-phenom-ii-x4-9x5-oc.html

Make sure that you have turned off Quite n Cool.
