Win 7

Thread Starter
Hi I got an HP computer with factory installed win7 home premium 64.
My gf broke it and it is now missing the boot manager. The recovery discs don't work and i was wondering if i can use a OEM Win 7 64 and just use the factory key?? do you think it would work, I hope so.

It will work, however won't be the same as the pre-installed Win. HP like to tweak the WIndows heavily- specaial power plans, special updates..
How does the recovery disk *not work*?? If the hardware is somehow damaged, the new install won't work as well.
Contact HP, maybe they'd help?

it will and won't work, your going to have to install the proper slic certs if I'm not mistaken. I know pirating is not something people like but in this situation it'd be good to get one of the activation programs and use it to install the certs. Unless you can get the certs manually and just install then

When you say the recovery disks don't work..what do you mean? Does your computer boot into the disk, allow you to go to the recovery section of it and attempt to do something before it crashes, or does it not let you get into the cd at all? I know with some computers you have to go into your bios and manually switch your boot order so it goes to your drive first instead of the hdd. If your hdd is set first you're not going anywhere if it's a bad file on the drive. Just a thought if you haven't tried that.
