RPC Server/Virtual Disk Mgr Unavailable When trying to format/shrink hdd in windows 7

Hey guys, just did a fresh install of w7 with my new ssd, and i have a 1tb platter drive as storage...

I want to decrease the size of it to 200gb, and when i try to do it in windows disk manager, I get a popup that says "Virtual Disk Manager Cannot be started"?

I tried to completely reformat the drive altogether, and I am getting the same message...

Anyone know what that means or how to get around it? Thanks....

It says Virtual Disk Manager cannot be started either because it is disabled or there are no enabled devices associated with it..the service is started and running fine...

anyone help me with this?

found the issue..in the case it helps others..the issue was i had the defrag service disabled since i have an ssd and apparently the windows disk manager needs it to work...reeenabled it temporarily and it worked fine

hope this maybe helps someone avoid some frustration wink.gif
