I wanted to get an HTPC for less than $400 but I can't seem to get a list that meets my requirements. This is my current build that someone else helped me with, it totals to $479.21 at the moment.

Why buy a discrete GPU when the onboard HD 4250 on the 880G mobo can handle the job just as well?

Here's a combined/modified version of the builds above:

Biostar A880G+, $60: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138283
AMD Athlon II X2 250, $60: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103903
G. SKILL 4GB DDR3 1333, $45: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231190
Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB, $100: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152245
Lite-On Blu-ray Combo iHES208-08, $50: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106292
Rosewill RNX-G300LX, $15: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833166021
Scythe Shuriken SCSK-1100, $35 (optional): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185097

^^^^This is the best on so far, in my opinion. I like the better chipset and 10/100/1000 LAN on the mobo. The extra $10 saves you ~40 buying an extra card, which you only really needed to get HDMI, which this board has.

I have the Spinpiont F4 and love it. I would add a smaller HDD for the OS, personally. I'd also get a free old PC and mod/paint the case, but that is a personal choice.

I've heard bad things about the Basiq from antec but I have a couple of their Earthwatts line and am very pleased. I like the extra "rails" and extra wire length (though the 4/8 pin mobo power cables are short and you may need an extension).

Regarding the aftermarket cooler, I've been looking at that..... will it fit on that board with the ram so close to the cpu?

Good luck!

RAM doesn't have tall heatspreaders so it should work. I've used it in worse layouts (GA-H55N-USB3). Might need to install the RAM before the cooler, though.
