How to install win7 on new SSD with upgrade disk, clean install from XP

Thread Starter
Currently running XP on one 80gb HDD, and I have a 300gb HDD for media.

Just bought a 64gb SSD and Windows 7 upgrade disk, I am aware that I need to do a clean install.

I want to have the win7 installed on the SSD and have the 300gb still usable for misc files.

My plan of attack was this:

1.) Install SSD where current 300gb is installed.
2.) Do the clean install of windows 7 and tell it to install on the new SSD.
3.) Replace the 80gb with the 300gb drive.

Does it work like that?? Or is it going to be a problem because my XP is currently installed on the 80gb that is going in the TRASH. I feel like this might be a little more complex than I originally anticipated...

Ok first off whats your specs, for your rig that your going to use that SSD with ? one set your SSD to ACHI in the bios.
Two you should make sure you disconnect all your slave drives before installing SSD & OS set them backup when finished.

Core 2 duo 6300, 3.3gb ram. Xp installed now on 80 gb drive and a 300gb drive for media, want the new ssd to have programs and the 300 to still have media.. The rest of what you said I dont get.

Should I clone xp to the ssd and then do the win 7 "upgrade"?

I would just clone your current HDD to the SSD, then when you upgrade select clean install. This will reformat the SSD and it would be as if you never upgraded.
