Linux music player library help?

Thread Starter
Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right section, as I haven't been back here in a while.

As of now, I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on the rig listed below. I'm trying to look for a music player that will list all of my music, but only a certain filetype (ex: flac). So far, I've seen Rhythmbox and Banshee and neither do this in the GUI. I don't know how I would create a script of some sort to configure this, as I am completely new to Linux.

Could someone help me out with this? I don't know how I would run foobar2k or install my Musiland drivers, either....

TL;DR: Linux media player that can sort by filetype and add to media player accordingly.

I prefer Exaile but I don't think it can separate by file type.

Audacious, XMMS2, MPD are the best 3 I've found yet. I prefer Audacious because it is like the original XMMS which was modeled after Winamp.

[edit] I actually think Audacious has parts of the XMMS core.

something like this

,

but on Linux/Ubuntu. I ESPECIALLY need the "Restrict to" parts of the Media Library, as I have transcodes of the same albums.

Ability to search library by type (can be disabled in prefs)

search for specific file types and create playlists? You could also just create playlists by adding folders one by one, I do that all the time. Sonata apparently can search by filename, you could check to see if it can search with wildcards *.flac ect..

Amarok supports FLAC and you can select which directories to use for your media library. I'll have to check if you can also restrict to file type.

Sonata could search by file name and find FLAC by using .flac but it locked up because it couldn't handle searching all my music. =( Nvm, I got Ario to do it. I'm using mpd/Ario and just searching my collection with ".flac" and it pulls up everything with that extention. So there ya go, search for .flac and you have your answer.
