i5 760 OC 4,6GHz help needed - Page 2

I doubt it but that is a little warm for sitting in BIOS. Loading windows should only cost you about 10C tops. Back the vcore down though. <1.45 should do it.

Depends on your BIOS. Some of the Asus Bios's dont actually show the multi. They just give the Ram Frequency options representative of the multi. So 210 baseclock you are looking for ~1262MHz Ram frequency.

********************************************

I'm just going to edit in here. I can't just tell you oh 1.XXv will work. For any clock it is going to vary alot. Each system is going to be a little different. For an overclock like 4.6GHz you have to really know your system pretty well. It takes alot of trial and error and knowing or at least finding out how it will respond to different settings. You are probably getting close to the max baseclock and this makes things more difficult.

For me I described trying to get benchmark stable at 4.775GHz (191 X25) like trying to thread a needle in the dark and 215 X 22 wasn't much better. Sometimes it just takes a little going by feel, but you have to already have a good feel for the system to do that. 4.5+ isn't for the faint hearted either. I can tell you that if I can't get it < 1.54/1.5 it isn't going to happen and I'm not just guessing.

With the memory multi question I'm just going to throw it out there that maybe you should spend a little more time getting to know your system before pushing it to the stops. I don't mean that as a terrible dig either. So I hope you don't take it that way.

no hard feelings, thanks for the replies. I've tried to separate the Bclk so i went for 210*10 and passed prime, than 220*10 and passed, even 230*10 was all right, so 210*22 should work in theory. The ram can boot with no problem at 1600 CL9 1,60V.

When I was using 210 base clock, i've putted around 1200, because the second speed was over 1600.

What should I do with QPI freq? i have auto and two speed one lower one higher, is usual to put the lowest or highest?

The lower option (4.2 GT/s or X16) but Auto should be putting you there already.

You did well. 230 is very impressive.

i doubt you can get 4.6 ghz stable on air, let alone on watercooling. With a baseclock that high, you may have to go in the 1.3volt area. Why don't you try starting at 4ghz so you have a baseline and know how much room you have to go upwards?

with this noctua they got 4.8ghz stable for tests. I'll try with cold intake, it's 8 C outside, here the temp of the room is 21+. I'll inform you about the changes

your aiming way too high for a first time overclock. go for something smaller first, and stabalize it and maybe even fine tune it. then try going for something bigger like 4.2ghz

it's not my first time OCing, yes it is on a 1156 MBO but the concept remain the same. I've OC to 4.0 4.2 and 4.4 stable for 3d mark and other bechmark, now I'd like to see how much can it go higher and then I have to find some 24/7 solution, 4.0 or 4.2. bye

hi guys, i have some news.

So I've done some arrangement with the cooling, so now with the Noctua I'm getting 15-18 C idle at stock speed.

The first thing I did was to put all the V for 4,6GHz, put the base clock to 210 but lower the multiplier to 19 to get 4.0GHz.
I entered windows, did some benchmark , prime 95 (max temp load was around 40 C), and 3d mark, all of this things was stable and passed the test.

Then I raised the multi to 22*210 to get 4.6GHz, so all the other settings remained the same, but it won't boot, just like yesterday. Now I'm sure that the temperature isn't a problem.

Then I've tried to revive 4,5GHz with 205*22. And I success, I was able to boot in win, to get a CPUZ reading. I've started 3d mark 06, passed the 2 first SM2 test, but failed at the CPU test (2 times). In Vantage the same thing, in Prime95 the same story (temp before failing was 58-60C max).

Can it be that the mobo is the bottleneck? A Maximus series mbo should do the job???

I had the same problem. I oc'd to 4.1ghz with no Voltage raises, and then i try to hit 4.2 and it wont even post so i have to reset it.

EDIT: Actually I could boot to windows on 4.2, and it ran fine with general use, but when I ran prime95 it failed in the first 10 seconds.
