computer only works laying sideways?

hello i recently built a computer for the first time and everything has been running great until now. So i was messing aroung in gmod, hitting gman with a crowbar when suddenly my computer just shut off. i waited a second, then tried to turn it back on and nothing happened. then i laid it down and took off the side so i could try to figure out what was wrong and couldnt figure anything out. so (still on its side) i plugged everything back in and pressed the powerbutton and it worked. so i thought everything was good and turned it back up and it immediatly shut off again.

i could be wrong, but i think its a problem with the psu because whenever it shuts off the light on the psu goes from green to orange, indicating that its switched off even though its switched on. also, the LED in the start and reset button on the motherboard is still on. so what do i do?

sorry if im not making too much sense, im tired from last night.

EDIT: **** now its doing it again! but now ive narrowed it down to being the result of a bad
24pin connector. now its just turning off randomly like when i tried to press the volume - button it just turned off. then to turn it back on i have to touch the wires on the 24pin connector. i've tried unplugging and plugging it back in and it doesnt seem to work.

I think the wires in the 24pin connector arent completly touching the metal on the 24pins on the mobo and whenever i touch it it gives it enough connection to turn back on. so now that ive figured out the problem, what do i do?

Maybe the motherboard is shorting out against the case? The motherboard can cause the PSU to turn off. Did you put a standoff for every motherboard hole?

No, the little brass things that go between your motherboard and the case.

No, a short metal standoff that keeps your mainboard from being attached directly to your case.

EDIT: What he said, with picture and all!

Maybe it's an oh-so-slightly loose 24 pin or 8 pin power connector.

The first thing to look for is the obvious. Physically check all connections. So unplug each one then plug them back in. If nothing seems out of place, get another cable for the PSU to the powerstrip. I'm betting that something failed internally with the wire and when you lay it down it makes good contact but when you stand it back up it disconnects again or shorts.

And just so there's no confusion, you did use standoff's when you mounting the board in the case correct? Did you run any wires between the board and case?

You can find out if it's the psu. Unscrew the psu, take it out of the case, and turn it sideways without disconnecting the cables. If it works then you know what the problem is.
