I gotta say the 6970 is much better than a full unlocked 6950 with oc. The 6970 is so much more stable. I upgraded after a week of crap with the 6950. The 6970 is way more smoother with the same framerates. Its good to be able to get more out of what you pay for but I think unlocked 6950s will start to degrade over time. They are not meant to run at 6970 settings. Wrong id for driver updates, wrong ram timings and wrong frequency is why they just cannot compare to the smoothness of the 6970. Not to mention the wrong volts. Once we can unlock the volts there will be an even bigger gap between them. So many ppl are bricking their 6950s with ocing them. AMD are smart they knew everyone would buy the reference models up and unlock them. Then months down the line they crap out and cannot warranty them due to the bios change. Dual bios wont help you there. So everyone ends up buying another one. More money for AMD.

I got a Sapphire aftermarket silent cooler 6970 for $370 canadian. It is real quiet

You have done the unlocking wrong to begin with, you have just flashed it with a 6970 bios, while you should just unlock the shaders.
You can adjust the voltage with afterburner, and that you will brick the card by ocing it is pure bull****.

Im currently on 1040/1500 1.35v stable with my 6950.

gpu says no to volts. I tried trixx smartdoctor and afterburner (with volt mod to 1.5) trying everything even the shader only unlock. tried 3 different cards. sapphire, asus, msi.

Friends sapphire reference card oced with unlock and artifacted crazy for 1 second and then black screen. cannot boot. tried reference 6970 and the one I am trying now. Performance is better than any 6950. 6970 costs just $60 more with stability and assurance. Theres nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with unlocking the shaders or bios of the 6950 either. It just might have consequences. There are lots of ppl returning their 6950 due to artifacting and we all know why. Some ppl are dumb and just push the limits to far without caring. I'm sure if someone knows what they are doing then they should be fine

raise the volts in afterburner. I am using beta 7. Then look at the VDDC sensor in GPU-Z it stays at 1.175

You can disregard the vddc sensor in gpu-z, a easy way to find out if your voltage stick is to see if your temp goes up and if you can oc higher.

i am beginning to agree with you. 1.200 volts in afterburner 935/1530 stable. I use eyefinity so I want a huge memory oc for AA

my core is having trouble going over 935
