Good. I hope those developers passing off PC games at $60 DO continue their current trend of releasing poor quality games. Now all we need is for Valve to somehow add this entitlement to Steam sales.

Funny, I remember hate threads on OCN over it being completely unplayable for atleast a week after launch(MP). Heck, the server browser wasn't even functional for days after release. The Demo/Beta worked but the game released was unplayable in MP form for over a week.

I just think that with the sophisticated nature of games these days we need not QQ so much over a patch needed so smooth out the game play. Does it piss us off? Sure. Are the problems needed? No. But if we have just a slice of patience, for the most part the developer listens and we all go forth holding hands in gaming bliss.

You do realize that despite inflation and cost of living increases over the last ~12 years exponentially rising that games have been 50USD new the entire time? I do think it sucks that the cost is going up just like anyone else but paying 60USD for Homeworld back in 1998 was sure as hell a lot more money than 50USD for *name drop* Black Ops is now.

So much crying these days. I think it sucks too but when you look at the big picture, we gamers do get it good.

I've almost completely stopped buying games on release date. They never work. I still haven't bought black ops for that very reason.

Over the past year and a half or so the number of garbage unpolished releases for big name titles has increased exponentially. Also, the price per game has gone up on average by 20%. Why pay people you employ an extra month or two to actually make a good product, right?

What does this mean?
PC gaming is exploited as a money market.
Cold hard profits are the only goal whatsoever, it doesn't matter if maybe making smaller profits on your games makes millions of people happy, or if you can harbor larger dev teams and provide more jobs to the industry.

Nowadays everything's gone to the crapper due to simplistic greed.

Easy enough to remedy. With almost every retail environment and online e'tailers connected to the web each package comes with a unique serialized barcode. Which upon sale would have to be activated at the register. And upon return of said merchandise because it is buggy or faulty, the activation code is rescanned and deactivated.
So go ahead and keep a copy of the disk and the cd-key. The acct that the key went with is inactive and thus the game copy you kept is unplayable.

As for buggy or faulty games, it is a matter of the consumer allowing it to happen. Fine, so the game is "licensed" to us and we didn't actually buy it. There are laws already governing what the licensee can reasonably expect from the licensor and what restitution is available if the licensor breaches their contract.
We wouldn't buy a car if it didn't work as advertised. We wouldn't stay with a phone service if it provided us with problems. But we continue to buy from the same mediocre publishers who insist on spending a small fortune on DRM to protect the pocket change that was spent to develop garbage to shove down our throats.
