Hope the development actually spend more time on beta, and get all the bugs/glitch fixed before rushing it to be release and just get money.

Can't really say Black Ops. Sure its laggy for a lot of people, but it also works beautifully and runs smooth as butter for a lot of people (such as myself).

blackops was completely unplayable on launch and there were a lot who could not even get into servers because the server list wasnt even fixed yet.

i fought for a week to get a refund and gave up. now it pointless as the game has been fixed a littled bit, but i still havent heard whether it is 100% fixed yet. havent played in a while.

Valve already do this, although they pass it off as a "one off good will gesture" which is utter BS as you can do this as many times as the games are faulty. You have the right to a refund, if you dwell in the UK, for the first 14 days of any item bought over the internet, iirc, based on the distance selling laws.

I just think that with the sophisticated nature of games these days we need not QQ so much over a patch needed so smooth out the game play. Does it piss us off? Sure. Are the problems needed? No. But if we have just a slice of patience, for the most part the developer listens and we all go forth holding hands in gaming bliss.

You do realize that despite inflation and cost of living increases over the last ~12 years exponentially rising that games have been 50USD new the entire time? I do think it sucks that the cost is going up just like anyone else but paying 60USD for Homeworld back in 1998 was sure as hell a lot more money than 50USD for *name drop* Black Ops is now.

So much crying these days. I think it sucks too but when you look at the big picture, we gamers do get it good.
Sorry pal, but 7-5 years ago all major PC releases were £30, on release. I have never and will never pay more than £30 for a PC game. Addionally, console titles were £50 (though many never actually sold for that and it was just a suggested R.R.P). Now PC titles are £40 and console games £60 (again with the R.R.P, though).

I dont understand the sudden increase in price. We have folk like yourself who claim Warcraft games were $60 back in the day, etc etc, but I've never seen a PC game sell for more than £30 for the last 10 years, until Activision discovered COD4's potential for price hikes, release MW2 at £40/£60 and people bought it.

I decried them then and I'll decry them now; those people who bought the priced hiked games are ruining it for the rest of us. Games do NOT need to sell at a higher price in order to be profitable. Supply and Demand barely applies, due to the fact that digital distribution ensures there's no shortages of physical products. What makes a game profitable is replayability and quality. So long as it is good, word gets around that's it's good and everyone wants a go and so long as you can keep playing it over and over people will either pick it up for the first time, or replace a broken copy. Check out COD4 or Counterstrike. People still buy those games new. CS still tops the Steam top sellers list and it's a £10 game. The replayability, quality and price ensure it's position as top seller.

As for the Sales of Goods Act. I'm currently in the process of starting this litigation on an OCZ Power Supply that decided to bust up one month out of warranty. Warranty, in the UK, is just the hassle free period where you can get an item replaced or repaired. After that your Statutory Rights still apply. Any item bought must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality for 6 years. A PSU that fails to provide power isn't fit for purpose or of a satisfactory quality. For the record, if anyone cares, I did try to encourage OCZ to replace the item for me as it was just 20 days out of warranty but they refused. So, my case, unfortunately, is OCUK

If this were available in the us I could see alot of fights at retailers. By this they have to give you all your money back?
Couple of issues with this. If someone takes the game home, activates it online/on Steam then returns it they get it for free.

The other issue is where do you draw the line. Every game ever released has had something wrong with it somewhere, does that mean every game should be returned? As long as its going to be patched quickly then I don't see why you should be returning the game. The only time this should come into play is when you buy a game that is completely unplayable and the developers have gone out of business so the game will never be fixed.

@ Viridian

Please remember that £30 7-10 years ago is basically £40 now - especially with 20% VAT in a few days.

Don't buy games on release unless you are completely bored out of your mind and have nothing else to play.
