955 be phenom II x4 4.0 with only multiplier

Thread Starter
So i was running prime for a while on my 3.6 and the temps were barely breaking 52 so i figured i could push a little farther so i went into bios and kicked multiplier up to x20. Then set the voltage to around 1.48 and bumped nb voltage a tad.

So far ive ran prime for like 10 mins and temps sat around 60 and my idle temps seem to be 35 with low fan speed but i put it to the real world test by playing world of Warcraft. i play on near ultra setting and i have an amd 6870 that i run stock at 4x multi-sampling in org at peak hours i was sitting around 45 degrees.

i know amd says the limit on this chip for temps is 62 degrees and im sure thats a modest number. temps in prime would probably get higher than i like but nothing else i do would ever even get close do you think the overclock is safe, or is there anything i can do to improve it?

I must have got an amazing chip.

Is that stock cooling? If so that is pretty insane.

Mine's at 3.9Ghz with only multi's and a voltage of 1.46v, sadly, I am not quite stable. But my max temp is 41c on full prime95 load =).

That looks fine to me. As long as you aren't folding anything, then I wouldn't worry about the temps. You should probably run prime95 just a bit longer as you may experience lock ups in more demanding games.

Try running 20-50 passes of LinX or IntelBurnTest using all RAM and see how your temps get. The Linpack test tends to make your CPU a tad hotter than Prime. Also, running Prime for 10 minutes is really not that much. Run it for a few hours to make sure you are really stable

I think 60 is a little high, but to each there own... Most chips start getting unstable around 55ish sometimes sooner. Depending on what your calling 'stable' is really up to you... What is your NB frequency? 2000?

yeah 60 is high for me in prime but nothing i play pushes it that high so its not really a realistic temp and all i do is gaming just did an hour of cod black ops and didnt break 48 degrees

and i have a zalman aftermarket cooler with a manual fan control
also nb multiplier is x12 and its curently at 2400 so i guess 200 clock

will i benefit at all from increasing my HT its at 2000 i can prob get 2400 but not sure if it will matter?
