Hah, no.
You'll be sitting around the speed of the cards themselves.

I'm using a cheap CF -> IDE adapter in my fileserver with a 4 GB "133x" CF card as the OS drive and for sequential reads it's around 18-25 MB/sec or so..

So what would you recommend to buy as an SSD to hold the just the OS? Can you tell Windows to never write to the SSD unless it is OS related, otherwise just write to my 2TB drive?

Something sandforce based or a C300.
Also that write life aspect of solid state is blown completely out of proportion..

But sure, just install your crap to the other drive instead of the SSD.

You could get something like this for nice fast read/write
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820139283
wouldn't be as good as a good SSD, but wouldn't be too bad for an OS drive.

just a side note, is that adapter sata I or II?

Not sure if one or two but I would guess two.

For the price there are exceptionally better options available..
Also, SATA I or II with those wouldn't make a difference as your transfer rates are only 90 MB/sec.

I know that sata I or II wouldn't make a difference, I was just curious.
I was just showing that the highest end CF cards aren't really that great.

unless you are going for size, but even then an SSD is pretty damn small.

$180 ....

90 MB/s isn't great for that price... but if you only had CF form factor it's pretty good.
