Will Sandy Bridge be worth it? - Page 2

In my opinion, our only hope left for an enthusiast platform in 2011 is bulldozer.

Ivy bridge won't be coming till late 2011 or even early 2012, and sandy bridge is not as impressive as I once thought it was.

Also, there haven't been any confirmation of even a 6 core sandy bridge processor, so there might not be one for a long, long time, if ever.

i understand if you currently own a 1366 rig moving over to sb wouldnt be worth it, but what about all of us 1156 folks? if i sold my cpu and mainboard, then bought new sb gear, you think it would be worth it? is sb going to support x16/x16? or only x8/x8 like its predecessor?

I am more interested in seeing how the Pentium SB's perform in Feb.

could give AMD a run for a money if the price is right.

It will only support x8/x8 natively, unless it has an nf200 chip, which I believe adds an extra x4 lanes to support tri-sli or regular sli with a physx card.

The 1156 folks will get a great improvement from SB but even then, you should really only upgrade if you actually need to do so as IB would be the better upgrade option. At least that's my opinion.

I know I'll be going AMD for Bulldozer but then again, I'm slightly biased when it comes to which company I purchase from (I hate Intel therefore I buy AMD). Well, again, as stated by Intel, there will be nothing higher than a quad core for SB. You'd have to hope that IB will bring one for the mainstream segment or wait until the actual enthusiast socket comes out.
