SC2 "Page Pool Memory" Issue - ON MY NEW RIG!!!

Thread Starter
Processor: i5 760 @ 2.80ghz
Mobo: EVGA P55 LE
Graphics: EVGA Geforce GTX 465 (fermi)
RAM: Corsair 4gb (2x2gb)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

Current Driver Version: 260.99 nVidia Forceware (from nvidia.com)

Sick for being on a budget, right? I thought so too. I bought this setup not too long ago(sept. 2010) and it's always had this problem, I just now figured out it had a name. I'm turning to you, oh wise internet people. Please help me get back in the ring.

Unfortunately I've done all the recommended stuff I searched for using google:

-turn compatibility modes on and off for the sc2.exe itself(all were tried)
-update and rollback drivers (done the first page of guru3d.com for nVidia Forceware)
-used a program called "gameboost" to turn off unnecessary processes
-lowered settings as low as they can go, and as high as they can go, FPS stays the same either way but the game crashes anyways
-vertical sync on/off
-use native resolution for my monitor (1440 x 900)

When I play Starcraft 2, on any graphics setting or resolution, the graphics start f$%king all up, the screen freezes and lags and jumps, then the screen goes black, the game returns to normal, and the errors repeats itself... until I get an error message that says "YOU HAVE RUN OUT OF PAGED POOL MEMORY"...

***

actually that's just recent, used to it would crash me right to the desktop saying "nVidia driver 260.99 had stopped working"... leaving me with nowhere to turn to.

I'm at the end of my rope. Please, if you have any idea of what's causing this, gimme something to try or some helpful insight.

Thank you.

it's a graphics problem. Post in the nvidia section and you'll see much more help. I'd start with a fresh windows install and use the latest drivers. Don't eff with ur page file settings or performance, just let windows manage it for you. If that doesn't work then ur gpu is effed and you'll have to RMA it

Try rolling back a few other drivers and see if that works.Really page file isn't even that important if you have 4GB> so you might as well save that space on your C.Also try updating to the latest version of DirectX if you haven't already , otherwise your GPU is probably ***** , RMA it.

Does this only occur in SC2?
Thread Starter
it only occurs in SC2 now. I had problems with BFBC2 until the last driver update. Now no issues are present in that game.

I was told to "disable the gpu on the i5 processor" by a SC2 player who claimed to have worked for nVidia. but I don't know how, it's not in my bios.

I've submitted a RMA notice to EVGA, but they're closed until tomorrow. I don't wanna ship my gfx card away for a month... ***.

Can a moderator move my thread into the appropriate category?

What version drivers are you using?

Welcome to OCN and please insert all of your info in the usercp options. We would like a better detail explanation of your system specs. However you did told us lol.

I think it could be drivers plus you really don't need to check ALL of the stuff in windows features you know? It's just a memory resource and i know it shouldn't matter. I am just saying you really don't need all of these on. Click what's best performance instead of having ALL of them checked. Just to see if you get any memory page.

Oh have you checked msconfig to see if your memory is set right? Bios memory set right?

Oh another thing.. here..

I used to do this but not anymore cuz i rather not. BUT it did helped me with my older system in the past. Here.. a link to tweaking Windows service. Maybe you can get lower process thus giving more memory.

http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm

Try it if you want. Maybe it'll help with the memory page thing.

55C at idle? hmm, sound high. Mine idles around 30C or so, so, maybe raise fan speed? Also, monitor temps when playing a game. I think RV should help there. It could be the reason

how do I raise the fan speed on my video card?

and what does this mean - what is RV?:

also, I received response from EVGA as follows:

Quote:
Answered By name ommitted in case he's wrong (01/02/2011 5:11:35 PM):

Could you please check the option to allow windows to manage the page file and test again. If the problem reoccurs go into your BIOS and double check your ram timings and voltage are manually set. If they are not please set them and test the card again. If they are set please run memtest (memtest.org) to ensure the ram is working properly as the 400 series cards are very particular about correct ram settings.

Regards,
EVGA

So I did all that. I'm going to test it. Wish me luck.

edit:

ok so Starcraft 2 didn't completely crash, but the screen blacked out a few times and came back to normal. i did get to finish a quick custom game (battlecraft - i won too lol) so I guess that's progress.

I'm going to see a movie, I'll be back later. Thanks again.

edit later:

the movie was good... go see "The Fighter"

anyways, I played another game of Starcraft fully, still with some flickers on the menu and a few black screens showing, but overall no crash. Seems to be working ok.... but its lacking something still.

I went and reviewed the timings for my corsair dominator - model# CMD4GX3M2A1600C9 - as per the request of the EVGA guy. theres a setting in my bios for the speed of the memory, but it only went to 1333 (not 1600)... its not until you see at the top you can change speed profiles, I chose "XMP Profile" ... and it opened up the 1600mhz option. I left the timing on (auto) 9-9-9-24 (rather than taking dudes advice and manually setting that too, we'll see if that changes anything.

ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD DRAM TIMING HOW-TO GUIDE? I wish I knew *** all this meant. is there a newbie section to this forum? a vault section full of awesome overclocking knowledge?

***I'm writing this all down so it helps somebody in the future. You don't know how crazy this has made me. Hopefully I can spare one lost soul with all my typing.

here's my latest screenshot of my speeds per this program:
