The stickers with the info has been removed by the people that stole it from me in hopes it would not be identified!
The more you talk about this the more sketchy it is sounding.

Let me get the story straight. Your wife's laptop was stolen, the police recovered it and the only thing missing from it was the serial numbers. Then magically a hard drive password appeared and now you want to bypass that so you can use windows/retrieve data off of your wife's laptop?

I suggest you contact the manufacturer for the replacement and serial issue. As for the odd p/w, just ask them what the defaults are. Good luck!

yes i know how this sounds. And to make matters worse the people that stole it was my brother and a friend of his. Along with the laptop they stole all of her jewelry along with my xbox360 and my 52" tv. Drugs make people do terrible things. Thanks for the info that i have received so far. If no one can tell me how to find my serial number other than the stickers then as far as i can tell i will have to contact Toshiba and if they cant do anything for me then to the junk pile it goes. Thanks anyway guys!!!

Yes I have read several forum threads online that state if you start receiving this type of problem then the hdd is bad and needs to be replaced!
