X-FI Forte vs Essence STX

Which one is better for gaming, which one is better for music. i am using it with my a-700 cans. if it is a draw, which one has better positional (XMSS 3D) in games.

Forte for games, STX for music IMO though both are still good for either/or

Forte wins without a doubt in gaming.

I wouldn't buy a Forte if I were you OP, they have been causing many problems (Search forte problems on Google). If you're looking for something besides Xonar, buy the Creative Titanium HD.

Also, I'd like to say, positional audio is just positional audio... Every thread I come to, people think the Xonars lack in the gaming aspect. No. That is not true, the Xonars also use the same surround technologies so, judge the quality (components) of the card.

On EAX:
"The aim of EAX has nothing to do with 3D audio positioning. This is usually done by a sound library like Microsoft's DirectSound3D or OpenAL. Rather, EAX can be seen as a library of hardware-accelerated sound effects."

adversity, thank you very much! so they use a positional technique also? is it xmss 3d or is it something comparable?

Well Asus uses EAX emulation for some older games, but you will find that with newer games the Xonars do very well with positional audio.. I play a lot of CS: Source and Bad Company 2 and my STX is awesome

EAX + CMSS-3D for realistic positional audio in directional gaming, Dolby Headphone for all-round applications. That or for ultimate positional audio: USB X-fi surround optical out / Realtek X-fi hack optical out to a Xonar.
