They actually gave me £57, but the postage for their new cards is £7.
Yeah, just that you know you'll have to pay shipping twice

I know - life sucks. I can russle up another £7 from somewhere

Just found the only ZNDC XXX 5870 on ebay. They're asking £295. I can't imagine anyone buying that?

If I bought one for £150 and (somehow) sold it for £295, then I'd have ~£350 to get a pair of 5850s and a CFX motherboard...

They gave you £50 for a 4890? I'd be giving them hell if I were you...

Offered, not given. But what can I do about it? Just complain through this RMA?

I've seen someone on here say throughout their RMA "don't give me a 5770 - don't give me a 5770 - PLEASE don't give me a 5770!"... What did he get?
A 5770.

Actually... He was also trying to RMA a dud 4890. So how come he gets a 5770 (£100 on their own chart), and I get £57?

Man that sucks....I don't know how RMA works in the UK, but I believe in the US you usually get a card that's somewhat comparable to the card you RMAed. Not sure how they dealt with cards broken by customer that followed their instruction tho....

What's wrong with a 5770? I've personally had 4890, 4890 Crossfire, 5770, 5770 Cross and Tri-fire and there's no difference between a 5770 and 4890 with newest drivers.

Tell them you want a 5770

And a second hand working 4890 is worth them £50.... I'd be giving them so much crap on the phone on Tuesday... which company is it?

5870 XXX or GTX295

Like I said, the amount they give you is based on the age, condition and market value (both for customers and their resale value).

They will probably alter what they give out according to what stock they have. 5770's will still be quite valuable for XFX because they can be sent out as refurbs to OEM's.

It probably makes more financial sense for them to give you cash instead. It really depends on what their stock/demand is like for last generation refurbs.

When I RMA'd my Powercolor 4870, they gave me ~£80 (last Christmas), but couldn't fix nor replace my existing card. I gave them an earful, but to be honest, they are completely within their right to do so. It's all under the SOG act.

They can offer you a comparable card and usually do if it is current generation. However, older generation cards are worth more as refurbs to OEM's than being sent out to standard customers, so they usually offer money.

So if you got a 5770, which isnt as fast as the 4890, you would still have to pay half? RMA sucks.

RMA doesn't suck if you're within warrenty with your reseller / manufacturer, or if the card isn't too old.
But it's now been almost a year and a half, so it's just not worth their while offering much for them.

After all, for all they know I could have deliberately trashed my card to try to get a next-gen replacement. If they let everyone do that then they'd be broke within the month.

I'll express my displeasure in the RMA - but accept their offer. Not much else I can do

EDIT: I didn't mention anything of the sort. I'm so weak willed. It's not my fault! The dude has the same name as me! Either that, or I'm just too british - I didn't even mention the thought that £57 is a lil ridiculous. But then, I don't think it is - the card is not working at all.
Instead I told them to make it £64, which after £14 postage is £50... I like the way the square number becomes a round number
