XFX 4890 RMA accepted - What to get as replacement? - Page 4

Thread Starter
Just spent some time looking around for P45 motherboards in order to CFX some 5850s.

Just realised that since I'm currently gaming at 1440x900 - and don't want any more pixels than 1920x1080 - it'd be really pointless! (Unless I resumed folding)

So. 5870 XXX it is - and I shall put it on ebay with a nice high reserve.

Unfortunately means I won't be able to use my PC for the next 2-3 weeks, but that's ok - I have exams to do!

Totally not worth it. The HD 5870 handles AA much better and gives smoother gameplay than the GTX 295. I've had the GTX 295 and even an HD 5850 felt like an upgrade

Market value? £21.

Market Value of 5830? >£21...

Why the uncertainty?
I think his question marks might have been denoting surprise at my failure to make the obvious decision, as opposed to doubting his own certainty...

EDIT:
I've been looking around, and a few things strike my eye:
Firstly: 6950s are completely identical to 6970s with a simple BIOS flash (they're only soft-modded to have less shaders etc.)
Secondly: 6950s are available for ~£220
Thirdly: I should be able to sell this XFX 5870 XXX for at least £220.

So - is it worth selling a top-of the range 1Gb 5870 XXX for a bottom of the range 2Gb 6950 (which I will probably be able to flash to a 6970)?
