Uhhhh.... 5870?
No choice, doesn't a 5870 beat a 295?
By no close shave too, like beat the 295?
Couple thousand points in vantage IIRC, you could always take the 50 pounds and buy a pre owned card?

Not sure what you mean by that - you mean the £50 I'd save by getting the 5870? For a second card?
I've already decided against CFX - it would be too expensive.

If you meant they'd give me £50 cash - that's not the deal. It's a discount, not a refund.

But I'd appreciate your opinion on 1Gb 5870 XXX vs cheapest 2Gb 6950 flashed to 6970.

They gave you £50 as an RMA for a 4890..... That to me sounds like they ripped you off....

RMA is usually refund or replacement... I know a new 4890 isn't available anymore but Im pretty sure £50 is not a suitable offer. You certainly can't get an equivilant product for that!

They will give me £50 off any of these cards:

What would you guys pick?
My budget (with the £50 discount) is £250, which covers all the cards but leaves me little moneys - this would hopefully be a future-proof upgrade.

I'm averse to paying out so much for a 295 which, although powerful, is only DX10.1.
I'm quite interested in the difference between the two 5870s - any preferences?

There's always the option of selling the new one, of course...
Or even selling my 4890 - although getting >£50 for it would be hopeful.
if you don't care about DX get the GTX295.
if you do get the 5870

If new 4890s aren't available any more, that must mean that the ones they offer through RMA (there's one on the list - £132.99) are refurbished, surely?

You reckon all their cards they send out to RMA victims (for want of a bettter word ) are refurbished?

Because I wouldn't value a refurbished 5870 at £200...

I did not read through the whole thread, but your card was or wasn't under warranty?

I'm asking because I just bought a 5870 for $214 XFX due to the transferable life time warranty, but I was under the impression that if your card breaks you would either get a replacement, refund or similar card.

If they give you a refund depending on the age of the card that sucks since the card I bought its already 1+ year old

I'd ask if you could get a discount on a Radeon 6850 myself.

All of the cards they listed could be refurbs. None of them are AMD/ATI reference designs. Going to a newer card would make a refurb unlikely, and a 6850 would be head and shoulders above your 4890. Maybe you could convince them to offer you something newer.

If that isn't an option, I'd go with the 5850 or 5870. The 5850 should be enough for your current monitor (I'm guessing you're running at 1440 x900, or 1680 x1050). If you go 5870, save the ten quid and go with the standard, a non-reference XXX doesn't justify the extra cost.

Note: To members in North America, XFX only offers us a lifetime warranty. It is a limited warranty in Europe.

Isn't the 4890 faster than a 5770. Then they should be giving you a discount of the 5770 price or ATLEAST the price of a 5670.
