Sure sure, no one except Apple marketers debates that it's not "real" multitasking. The point, though, is that the end result is the same...iPhone apps in general aren't background tasks, they are foreground tasks. Being able to keep one interactive running actively in the background, but effectively on "pause", while you use another interactive app has no different end result that fast app switching. For apps where background operation makes sense (e.g. music apps, like Pandora), it can and has been done. And with the pushes, I get my e-mail and Facebook pings while I'm doing other things.

Note that I recognize the tech geeks that insist on being able to run a bittorrent download or keep a terminal shell open while they are playing Angry Birds do not agree with my statements. This is not about you...you're weird and a very small minority. Jailbreak, or enjoy your Android, or whatever.

My point is that most all of the functions a typical person needs, for which multitasking has been the solution on a PC, are met on an iPhone another way. Is that better or worse? Why does it have to be either? Why can't it just be different? Is a gas engine better or worse than an E85, or a gas/electric hybrid, or a pure electric...as long as the car runs and you're happy with it, why can't they just be different? Is a flu shot injection better or worse than a nasal spray, if you don't get the flu does it matter? You get the point...different means to the same end, who cares whether it's a hamster or a mouse running on the spinning wheel.

When people blindly ask me what phone they should get when upgrading i almost always push the iPhone4.

I start by explaining the differences between platforms but once i see the confused looks on their faces I realize that they will have the best time with an iPhone4. They were looking for a straight answer, not the reason behind it. Its consumer friendly and is a solid device.

What's saddening me is witnessing veteran forum users post their opinions as facts. The general theme here seems to be iPhone fans claiming their device is the best while Evo owners are just trying to defend it as a good device.

Everything you said was correct, I enjoy reading your posts because they're well thought out and have a consistent, valid argument.

Btw, how is AT&T coverage in Columbus? I'm by warren and I get a consistent 6 megabits down, which must mean around here is updated to HSPA+.

I'm a customization whore and while the iPhone may be 'easier' to use, i wouldn't be able to tweak and customize the crap out of it. If you've used one iphone, you've used them all.

That said, iOS is a great mobile OS and the iphone is a great phone but not good enough to make me give up the control i have with android.

I still think my HTC HD2 is the best phone ever. Simple fact is because I can run Win 6.5, Android, WP7, Linux and MeeGo on the same beautiful 4.3 inch screen as the Evo. In fact it was the first to have it. =)

But still.... it's just a phone

I think my HTC HD7 is the best phone ever. HTC is the brand for smartphones. I also have an original zune. Apple just doesn't impress me enough. And I came from an android phone. I can say Android was a pleasant experience, but after using WP7 and having XBlive and netflix on the go, I am sold.

Your HD7 is the exact same phone as the HD2, with just a kickstand...
