Mobo's a go go...

First off i'd like to give thanks to the community here, only forum ive found when overclocking and researching and such that provides results & solid info, I also believe Manbearpig is still at large!

So like the pure tattie I am I decided to leave my rig to stress test whilst out shopping on Xmas eve, I return to find a powered down rig, turn it on and pop! sparks right under chip, oh dear Nice festive scent of electrical burn.

Being a x2 555be unlocked core, no chance in RMA'ing so I've decided to try my hand at Intel for my replacement.

Before i go on I know about Sandy bridge etc..... but when your rig blows on Xmas eve and you get a shed load of games from Clausmesiter, and with the holidays and stores delivery providers being a pain in the UK at the moment, i just want the best and quickest solution. With my local delivery Depot Claiming 15cm of snow last night, must be that invisible stuff.

So to the point!

Got my eyes on an i5-760, will hopefully reach the 4Ghz mark safely, using my h50, Question is after Xmas and stuff and cash being low i have about £100 to spend on a Mobo. I've been peeking some of the gigabytes and ASUS boards, after my MSI 777 c45 board ive gone off them, so would like to avoid that brand, but if anyone has an MSI offering I'm all ears or eyes.

Also would i benefit from the usb3 & 6gb sata offerings, as in the future i'd like to buy a SSD. This setup I am hoping will last me a couple of years with minor upgrades like graphics, ram and SSD's.

Sorry for the wall of text and thanks for your time

Chikara, I picked up an Asus Sabertooth X58 board for my i7 950 recently and I'm loving it. It has usb3 and 6gb sata and has worked like a charm from day one. I've pushed my 950 from 3.0 to 3.6 GB and I'm sure I can get it to 4.0 easily with this board, as many have.

The price is a little more than what you've mentioned at $199 USD, but it may be worth it to splurge on this excellent board.

Hey thx for replying, yeah id probably splash out more if the board would survive a nuclear blast, isnt the x58 for i7's only? It is a beastly board i do admit that, comes in for about £150 to the door in the uk

Doh, your right of course, the x58 is for i7 only. The Sabertooth 55i supports i5, but it looks like it lacks the usb3 and sata6 features. Sorry about that!

Yeah, i do have a plan B of buying some "budget" board like maybe the Gigabyte P55-usb3 for about £90, and just get a better board in a few months with price drops due to new tech being released.

I've even been scanning the sales pages here in case, although my first day as a member not just a reader.

Although ive heard good things about the Gigabyte P55a-ud3, and within my price bracket, and has some decent reviews, and i never plan to run more than one graphics card
