Title of post "A simple Question: GTX 460 or AMD 6870?"

The poster wasn't asking about GTX 470 but the GTX 460 vs AMD 6870. The graph you posted Mekaw shows that the GTX 470 is a tad better than the AMD6870 by 1FPS and lost to it on the 2560 x 1600 resolution by 1FPS. AMD 6870 still beat the GTX 460 card which is the topic of this post.

I edited the last paragraph where I said "Now in the end they will tell you that the GTX 470 is cheaper by $50" to GTX 460, I mistyped. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm an AMD boy only as of late, up until AMD refined and improved the Bart architecture performance of a Radeon HD 5800 series card at a lower power and lower price point. Improving performance and functionality in areas like tessellation, image quality, Eyefinity, CrossFireX, and video decode. What they came away with is a very compelling package. I switched only as a personal decision.

I've said it before but Nvidia vs AMD is like comparing which apple is more red when they both taste just as good. Buy either and your still going to have a great gaming experience.

^^ to be honest I'll never admit my hawks might not be as powerfull since I think they are the dogs dangly bits (notice how I even write "might" lol) I think we should have a bench off, I'll take mine up to 900 for a unigene 2.1 bench, any one out there with 2x 6870s? AIR ONLY and overclocked as much as you like we have to keep it fair after all

Oh oh oh, I like your style mate
And yeah, Hawk's been ordered.
It looks damn sexy, if I do say so myself. Besides, I'm only playing Call of Duty 4, Black Ops, Modern Warfare 2, Medal of Honour and Starcraft II. Beyond that, i doubt it. I'm getting bored of all those games as it is. Hawk's ftw <3

Nice mate, you won't be disappointed! Just remember it's a mid range card that packs a punch, the real glory is when you sli them, but 1 is more than enough for a great gaming experience, 2 is just for greed lol. Try battlefield bc2, it's amazing and I'm also a die hard cod player. I'd also play crysis if you've yet to play it properly, run it at 720p , highest settings and 4x or 8x antialiasing for the full experience. Give metro a miss it's a crap game. I'd also play some fallout, it's another level above the console when you turn it up. Also so is oblivion for that matter! And there's some mental mods for it!

Almost forgot if your a racing fan - shift is epic! Blows gran turismo out of the water in my opinion

Well they compared the AMD 6870 DirectCU to an overclocked GTX 460. Not an overclocked AMD 6870.

"On the performance front the 6870 DirectCU compares well with an overclocked GTX 460, matching it in most games and exceeding it in a few others. It was only HAWX 2 where the NVIDIA card showed a significant performance lead."

And Blu-Ray and 3D AMD 6870 surpasses by far the GTX 460 in every single test benchmark from every site that posts such tests.

Don't get me wrong the GTX 460 is a great card but the AMD 6870 is better than it.

The poster asked "A simple Question: GTX 460 or AMD 6870?" and didn't specify if he was looking for better deal or better GPU. For the money and bang for your buck the GTX 460 would be the answer but for performance and slightly higher price you get close to a GTX 470. Check around without rose colored glasses and you'll see.

Happy Gaming!
