Superior architecture is going to win most of the time regardless of how many cores you slap onto the CPU die. Right now it rests with intel, but that may well change. We'll see. Do I think intel will still be top dog performance wise, yes?
Is amd going to win the price performance war, I think so, but it'll be close considering how sandy bridge is performing.

X6's are great with rendering where 6 physical cores benefit more then virtual cores, but yes, overall the current Nehalem's edge out AMD's Thuban's in most cases, SB will be even faster clock for clock. AMD released the hex-cores to compete with the i7's so people can get a lot of cores while sticking to their AM3 setups.

But we can't compare till their ACTUALLY RELEASED and we see some benchmarks. Not just pre-released CPU's.

Not talking about phenom x6, imagine a i5 760 with 2 more cores vs a i7
x6's lose because they have inferior architecture.

*EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH* wrong, 4 cores + HT at 4ghz (i7 920 (SLOWEST STOCK i7)) BEATS THE x6 AT 4GHZ ALSO.

when they are BOTH at 4ghz, the QUAD still beats the HEX.

Wait so they have 1155 and 1156 annnndd 1356 all desktops ***? considering i'm not looking for any thing fancier than core 2 quad i'm glad i chose 775 for my secondary computer.

We might see a 6 core CPU on LGA 1155. But only after LGA 2011 releases.

I can totally imagine Intel releasing a 6 core CPU without HT for LGA 1155, for example.

In any case, Ivy Bridge WILL be compatible with both LGA 1155 and 2011. Ivy Bridge is the die shrink of SB Micro-architecture. That doesn't mean that it will have 6 core CPUs, but even if LGA 1155 never sees more than 4 core CPUs, it will at least have newer and faster Quads with Ivy Bridge.

And like many have said, any Quad with HT will be faster than an X6.

You might surprised to see the new i5 2500k to be even faster than a X6 WITHOUT Hyperthreading.

The i7 2600k OCed to 4.8ghz is equal to an 8 core/16 thread Xeon CPU. That should make you think of how much faster these CPUs are.

X6 has six, but slow cores.
