A friend bought the GTX+ and got 5FPS more on "- Real-Time High Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting -" than me. Both was on stock, both had similar CPU speed. (he: 2.83GHz Q9550, Me: 2.85GHz Q9300)
That's not a valid comparison. The 9800GTX (not +) is a G92 core, essentially a rebranded 8800GTS 512 G92. Technically the clocks were slower on the G92 and there was less memory, but the 8800GTS was right there with the 8800GTX on low-mid resolutions where the memory shortage wasn't a factor. Not to mention the G92 was way more efficient in terms of TDP. The 9800GTX+ is NOT the same as the 9800GTX, the GTX+ is based on a newer G92b chip. Barring other factors I'd say the 5FPS is as much a function of difference in processor cache, even at a lower core clock in the 2 systems. There's a good thread here
about the differences in the G92 core and the revisions for those interested.
