90 Degrees C too hot for GPU?

Thread Starter
My 8800GTS 512MB GPU just ran on OCCT stress test for about 5 minutes or so. Seems like it maxed out at around 91 degrees Celsius. And my case has 4 fans installed and my cable management is really good for the case. So is 91 degrees Celsius too hot for this card or is that normal? It idles around low 50s. I just reset to stock settings as well seeing as how my OC wasn't stable according to OCCT.

that seems perfectly normal for full load, most cards are rated for temperatures above 100 deg celcius, its just people seem to think its really hot but it is infact ok.

Mine holds at about 52C with full load. It used to be about 70 before I added a high CFM fan to my exhaust radiator which pulls a lot more air through the case.

I can't comment about Nvidia but my ATI xfx 5770 only gets to 80C when testing/gamin with my fan down to 30-35%. Its completely quiet at those speeds. But while I game/stress test I run my fans at 65-70% and it stays in the low 60's high 50's.

90C is technically fine since the max temperature for the 8800GTS is 105C. I'd suggest trying to get the temperatures down. You could try replacing the Thermal Paste on it, if you haven't done it yet or done it in along while the paste could be dried up.

TBH 90 is pretty high, mine hardly reaches 75C on full load. You should try this to keep your temps down
