Sounds to me like your thermal paste has dried up. Did you spray compressed air into the back of the card?

90C is not that bad for a GPU. They are built to withstand over 100 degrees of heat.

People around here are temperature pansies. tongue.gif

That really isn't that hot.

Dont take it apart until you have some tim on hand tho. as5 would work if your on a budget but I suggest ic7 or shin etsu for top of the line stuff. mx3 works good too and isnt conductive. If you are new I suggest something non conductive with no curing time.

I have MX-2 in the basement.

Then your temperature reading is off. 91C is not overly hot for a GPU.

Tomshardware did a review of the 5870 and it wasn't throttling until 100C. In fact, it would throttle at 100C and stop throttling as soon as it hit 99C.

You're mistaken if you think that 91C will cause throttling.

Umm... Its okay if you want to boil water...

Please try to keep your temps below 80c because while you might not burn out your core at 90c, there is a good chance your VRMs might be hot as hell as well.

I'll give it a try after watching the vids. Is that all there is to it though? Will my heatsink come off as easy as his did you think? If it doesn't do I just twist bit by bit until it loosens?

By temperature reading I did not mean the way you read the temperature. doh.gif

Your card doesn't throttle at 91..

Forget it... I suppose there is no hope explaining it. frown.gif
