Is the Steelseries Merc Stealth worth it?

Thread Starter
Simple opinion question here. I was in Best Buy today and saw this keyboard on sale for $55. I did a little research on it when I got home. I also wanted to ask here in case someone could share first hand experience with it. Is it worth the money or should I just forget it?

Thanks in advance.

For that price I think it is. I had fun taking it apart and replacing some of the LEDs inside.

Although the key editing engine has a rough edge or two, the editor is full featured enough to satisfy. It's MUCH better than using some lame (at least lame in comparison) replacement like AutoHotKey. You can edit any key, and like some other enthusiast boards, you can disable the windows keys (by removing their function or replacing their function with another key). I also like how it can switch keymappings on the fly (detects which game is open and changes key profile accordingly).

I had SERIOUS problems with AHK and remaping keys. Sometimes my remapped keys would "stick" and suddenly I'd walk off edges in a particular 3D fighter I used to play. One time AHK also left my Ventrilo PushToTalk key on... I didn't notice until someone pointed it out to me almost 2 minutes later.

If you're curious and want the functionality of custom keymappings, you really ought to give it a shot. The only thing I could think of replacing it with is a quality backlit 106-key Japanese keyboard. Something probably very difficult to find and order here in the states. Not really something that appeals to everyone here either.

I paid $80 for mine and love it. Far more impressed with it than my friend's Razer Lycosa (which he bought for the same price).
