Prime95 vs IntelBurnTest

Thread Starter
So in Prime95 I can hold a 3.85ghz overclock on my cpu for 8 hours with temps between 56-60c. Stable, no errors or blue screens.

I just tried IntelBurnTest (very high) and it had my cpu up to 74c when I got a bsod, after only maybe two minutes!

P95 has always a been reliable for me when stability testing, yet I fail the Intelburn in almsot no time at all....does the Intel program overdo it on the stress test or what?

Your Phenom went to 74c? Thats not good bro. Anyways stability is subjective, if you're stable thru Prime 95 and have not BSOD while using your computer don't worry about it.

IMO if you're 20 or even 50 loops IBT stable on max memory, youre definitely stable.
EDIT: Ergo I'd get IBT stable unless you dont mind the minor stability loss
post #4 of 10
50+ runs of IBT means rock solid oc

It's been my experience that any setting above Standard in IBT is a good measure of stability. If you can do 50 loops on Standard and it doesn't report an error, you're golden. Alternatively if you can do 24 hours on Prime95 you're also golden.

Yeah tone down the overclock, IBT stresses the CPU like nothing else.

There have been a few occasions where IBT was stable and P95 wasn't for me though, so I always use both. IBT for quick tests and P95 for potentially final overclocks, i.e. overnight tests and such.

That's why I use IBT or LinX because it stresses your CPU more and finds errors faster. That's just ne though..

I don't know. I've had machines that were 24-hour stable on Prime95 that still failed IBT.
