power supply question

hi i have a couple of questions about installing a new powersupply, i currently have a Asus M4A785-M motherboard and a AMD phenom 9750 running on a 450w power supply made by powerup that came with the case when i bought it.

i have now started building a sig comp and am buying parts at certin times. First i want to buy a case and powersupply a better one this one is making noises.

this powersupply:

says its compatable with the i7, will it work for a amd system?

2nd question.

sense my computer is running on a 450w power supply at the moment, would adding a 750w powersupply make my motherboard / processer vunrable to damage because of more power? or will it run the same?

Yes and no.

because it is compatible with i7 cpus does not make it incompatible with amd's offerings.
a psu will work across different brands.

going from 450 to 750 is also not an issue. your psu is not feeding more power to your system, it's only giving potential for more power. for example, if your system draws 200 watts, it will draw 200 watts out of 450, versus drawing 200 watts out of 750. the 750 watt will give you more flexibility for more power consumption.

It will work on your system.

It won't fry your system, your components will only pull the current that they require.

Power supplys are like horses, they pull whatever they're told to pull; rocks, carts, and/or etc.
The power of the power supply is like feeding a hamster. If you dump a pile of food into the cage, the hamster will not eat until it explodes.

To my understanding, PSU's are compatible across both Intel and AMD platforms.

Using a larger power supply will not damage your system. Like beers mentioned, your components will only pull what they need from the PSU. Having a larger power supply simply allows you to sustain more power-hungry setups (like multiple video cards) if you choose to upgrade in the future.

Efficiencies differ depending on how much current they pull (i.e. usually you get the best efficiency using 50% of the rated wattage).
