Roccat Kone [+] vs Deathadder v2

Hey, I purchased the Roccat Kone + about a month ago, but since getting it have mostly just been playing WoW and browsing. I am using it with a Razer Destructor mouse pad, and the mouse has been amazing. However, a week ago I started to play CS:S and TF2 with it (at 6000 DPI, TCU on,default sens, acceleration off, 1.0 sens ingame with raw input on) and in CS:S I did very well mostly using the AK and M4.

I played TF2 with the Kone for the first time on the same settings and noticed I had problems sniping. I was doing a lot worse than usual (with my old G9 my sniping was phenomenal). After wondering why I simply couldn't make those twitch shots anymore, I looked at my hand and realized I was holding the mouse practically sideways and half my palm on the mouse pad rather than on the mouse with my palm grip. So I said this mouse is just way too big for my small hands and I won't be able to make precise sweeping movements and twitch shots. So I decided I would order the Deathadder v2 to compare the two, since I hear nothing but acclaim for it and it looked suited for small hands and palm grip.

When I got it and played CS:S with it, I noticed my hands conformed to it much better. More of my palm was on the mouse, and my fingers were extending to almost the end of the mouse, rather than being like halfway. I also held it straighter while sweeping it. I put it on 3500 dpi and adjusted ingame sens accordingly, and my first reaction to the mouse was enormous joy. On my first game with the thing, I clutched 6 people on dust 2, and I've played CS:S for like 20 hours total in my life. So I figured the DA was the way to go for me... and then I played WoW and browsed a bit. I don't know what it is, but nearly every time I went to target a player, click something in the UI, talk to an NPC, click a link etc I would ALWAYS miss whatever I was trying to click by just a little bit. With the Kone, I just glide the mouse right to it effortlessly.

Because I didn't understand how the incredible precision of the DA didn't translate at all from CS:S to lighter use, I decided to do a side by side test on CS:S and see if the DA was really as amazing as it felt and I wasn't getting lucky. I joined a dust deathmatch server, and played with both mice up to 50 kills. I was AWPing, and based off how bad the sniping on TF2 was with the Kone, I was sure the DA would win it.First was the Kone: I went 50-21. With the DA: 50-25. However, due to luck and other variables, I called this even. The next day, I decided I would play some normal Office and Dust with the DA first, then in a few hours with the Kone. I don't remember my results, but I did well with the DA, and upon starting up with my Kone I felt right off the bat this mouse was gargantuan after using the DA for hours. And then, I proceeded to do about twice as well with the Kone.

I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on here. The things I can think of are:
1)The Kone is too big for my tiny hands- Makes sense, except despite it being obvious this is a humongous mouse, I still did better with it than the DA overall in FPS and it's MUCH better to use in browsing and other games.

2) My mouse pad is better for the Kone than for the DA, which is why it's winning- Perhaps, but this IS a razer mouse on a razer mousepad..

3) Luck- Maybe I just got lucky while using my Kone

Is it one of the above? Something else? Why was the Kone so unwieldy during my first routine sniping session but then beat out the DA that fit my hand like a glove? Why is the DA so precise in CS:S yet so poor in routine use?

I'm finding it impossible to decide on which mouse to keep around and need help with this urgently as I'm just lost.

Thanks a TON in advance.

Not sure, might be because of the way the games handle precision on your mouse. I use my G9 and I was just awful at Goldeneye: Source but did okay in TF2. I'm still debating on whether to get the Steelseries SX from a member here or try to find a Razer Ironclad.

I was going to get a 4HD/9HD because I read how good it was for the Kone's sensor, but apparently it wears out the mouse feet fast, and this is a $120 mouse with no mouse feet replacements that ship in the U.S. so that's a no-go.

I was going to get the Roccat Taito which is apparently suited perfectly to the Kone, but it's so freaking enormous that there's no way in hell I could fit it in my keyboard tray.

I'm currently using my Razer Destructor, but I'm thinking there may be a better pad for the Kone + to get full precision. And I'm willing to spend, so if anyone has a good suggestion shoot.

Of course, that's assuming I go with the Kone and not the DA. I still can't for the life figure out which one to keep around. Seems every time I switch to my DA it feels so much better, and when I switch back to my Kone it feels like a damn brick. Then, I play a few hours with it and do extremely well and wonder why I ordered the DA in the first place, only to eventually feel it's too big and try the DA once again confused.gif

What about this mouse feet for the Kone[+]? Looks like I'll be getting this mouse soon and I need a hard surface for it.

The Kone + has different feet. It's one large on the bottom and two small ones on the top left and right, unlike the 4 in that pic.

Is it normal that I often hold my mouse sideways, especially while sniping, rather than straight with a palm grip? This happens with both mice I believe, but probably much more so with the Kone.

I also got a Kone+ and Taito, and the tracking looks very good to me. However I also noticed that sometimes I hold the mouse sideways, but I think this is because I am more a claw gripper due to my previous G9x. I'm trying to get used to have a proper palm grip.

I'm a little bit curious about the DA too, I have quite small hands and wonder if it would be a better fit. What about the glossy surface? Comfort? Compared to Kone+

Hey LifeRuiner,

I'm having a very similar Dilema atm and was wondering which mouse you chose to stick with?
