one 30" or 3x23/24 in Portrait

Thread Starter
From a gaming standpoint only.

I run SLI 570's and have been debating which way I'd like to go with my monitors. One Dell U3011 with one of my old asus vw266H's as a secondary for multitasking, or 3x1 portrait U2311H/U2411H.

I mostly play World of Warcraft, 90% of my time is spent on it. The rest of it goes to Blackops, BFBC2, Metro2033, soon to be Dirt2, and like 100gb of other steam games.

I currently run 2 VW266H's as primary for gaming, secondary for apps/multitasking, and unfortunately am not able to see either of these setups in person or try them hands on.

Since I mostly play WoW, I'm not sure which setup would be better or run that game the best - obviously knowing this would make the choice much easier.

WoW will benefit from Nvidia Surround so I would go with the three monitor setup.
If you're only going to use the monitors for games I will always go with the bigger monitor.

If you have the chance to get a U3011 I wouldn't pass on it.

I have the chance at a u3011 cause this is going to be a 900-1500$ setup either way, so it's definitely an option. The computer is my main computer so it won't be gamed on 100% of the time.

3 23's or 24's in portrait technically is the bigger monitor.

I'm not a fan of portrait multi-screen setups, nor bezels.

I would go for the 30" and keep one (or both) of your current monitors. Use the 30" for gaming and the other(s) for when you want to put a guide on one while still gaming or whatever use you may have for it.

The single 30" , or 3dvision surround with three monitors,
3 monitors (non3d) with NVIDIA and without 3d vision surround is pointless and will only cause a headache ,.. Thats best left to Eyefinity.

I see no one on other forums saying that nvidia 3x1 setups will cause headaches.

The bezels on the dell monitors are pretty small btw, and not too noticeable.

If you are looking for a good price on a 30 inch HP ZR30W monitor, there is one on ebay being sold for a great price. I have one and it is an amazing monitor.

3 x 24" will give you a lot more screenspace than a 30" @ 2560x1600 will.

I just got 3 new 24" 1080p samsung P2450's and I am definately not looking back!

Want more image clarity and a wider field of view? Go with 3x U2410 in portrait (or any other 1920x1200 screen that you desire, 1080p screens work as well, but the bezels are even closer together.. Might bother some, might not b other others)

Want a setup that is easier to run and that doesn't have bezels? Go 30"

for gaming, id suggest 1 bigger screen, i have a eyefinity setup and im getting rid of the two spare monitors soon, as its just a headache to turn your head into the corners of the screen in my personal opinion, so 1 larger screen should be a better choice for FPS / racing games i would suggest it at least.
