So my question is:is there that much of a difference between these two proc's if i had to oc them exactly the same way on the same board...the point im making is that would it really be worth upgrading my i3 to an i5,i'd appreciate all the pro's and cons to this topic. Thanks in advance!

On the i5s the GPU core freqs are higher usually about it.

Best i5 to get is the 7xx series though.

unless its a quad then i dont think so

Depends on what i5 you're referring to. Clarkdale i5, not worth it. Lynnfield i5, yeah sure. A lot of apps/game are finally becoming multi-threaded unlike before, so there's a tangible benefit to quad-cores now. Too bad most apps/games don't scale higher than quad.

The i5-6xx's are dual core with 4mb L3 cache (Clarkdale)
The i5-7xx's are quad core with 8mb L3 cache (Lynnfield)

The i7-8xx's are i5-7xx's with Hyper Threading enabled
