Is something wrong with my PC? GTX 460

Thread Starter
So I just upgraded to an asus GTX 460 1gb 'voltage tweaked edition' from an 8800 gt. While I did get a fps boost, it wasnt as much as I had expected.

On BFBC2 I am getting between 20 and 30 fps in high action parts in multiplayer. Settings are all medium, 1x MSAA and 1x AA at 1366x768. (Monitor is 1680x1050).

My CPU is Intel E8200 @ 3.2 ghz. Is that bottlenecking it or does this sound like a driver issue? I am running vista 64bit.

Temps are CPU 33c idle 45c load. GPU 24c idle, 45c load.

Just wondering if I should bother reformatting my pc to get better performance.

Have you installed the latest driver off nvidias website? Although that probably wont be the problem.

Edit. Also how much of that patriot ram have you got?

bottleneck?*

Is that a particularly CPU intensive game? Tried any other games?

Did you remove the old GPU drivers in safe mode to m,ake sure they're completely gone?

*although I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be.

Yes I am running the latest nvidia drivers.

Old card uses the same drivers. Haven't tried any other games. One thing though is that I used to get better performance with the 8800GT in L4D2 when that game first came out. But then it is like my pc got tired or something and my fps in any game dropped. So I upgraded my card and OC'd my CPU, still not the performance I was expecting.

I have 4gb of 800mhz RAM.

As for the temps, that is with all stock cooling. My basement IS the cooler. A bombing 15c down there during the winter.

I just want to know if those frames are expected to be that low because of my CPU or something, or should I reformat. All of my games are on steam so downloading them all again will be a pain, but if it will improve my frames I will so it. (Maybe even change to Windows 7 instead).

I can't think of any hardware bottlenecks then. possibly your cpu but i dunno.

What you should do is open up start task manager and click on the performance tab. Play BFBC2 for 5mins and then return to your desktop and see how much your cpu and ram is being used.

I am pretty sure my CPU sits full use while gaming, but I can check again when I get home.

I know for sure in l4d2 with the 8800GT and 3.2ghz cpu it struggled on low settings.

Well yeh if your gaming and the CPU is at its full usage thats a bottleneck. You could try overclocking alittle bit and see if you gain fps but in the long run your gonna need a cpu upgrade if thats the case.
