Question about P4 HT

Thread Starter
So i was going to buy a P4 HT at 3.0Ghz socket 478. with 1MB cache second hand, but turns out it's out of stock and they only have 512kb ones.

The question is what is the performance difference between the 512kb one and the 1MB cache one?

I just don't want to make a mistake in buying the P4 with 512KB cache.

P.S
I am going to bring back a s478 PC back

TBH. I don't see why you would.
I have a S478 3.06Ghz HT P4 Northwood PC running Windows XP sitting in a corner that I VNC into. It's slow as anything. And this is with a recent clean install of Windows...

It's mad slow... lol

You don't have a Celeron D CPU to know what is slow

That is why i wanted to bring the machine back to life with the best possible CPU it can have and i was aiming for it, but only the 512KB cache one is available. It's a one time chance. If i get it now, even if i can find a 1MB one, i will not be able to buy it.
Actually i found the 1MB cache ones on other sites, but it's way above what i want to give for it.

Oh no. One of my old Dell PC's sitting in my closet has a Celeron Willamette. Which is older than the Celeron D. It uses SDRAM. I wouldn't even think to use it as a little server either.

But check eBay. I found my P4 HT on eBay and bought it for like 20$.

I wish i could buy from EBay, but it currently is not a place of choice.

Anyway, i still have the ability to buy the 512kb cache...i just want to know what i will miss if i dont get the 1MB cache one..
