ATI drivers - myth or reality? - Page 2

I had been using nvidia cards for 9 years, when I changed to Ati(5850 cf) last year, my biggest concern was drivers, happy to say I have not had any sort of major problems at all.
I have all ways un-installed drivers, boot into safe mode, use driver sweeper, reboot and install new drivers.

The driver problems are a huge myth. Think of all the idiots who fall for Nigerian type scams and get viruses on the computers. Some of those people have the money to buy fancy hardware and then they go about messing it up and blame ATI or nVidia for their stupidity.

I recently went from my 4870x2 to my 9800GT back up card without a single problem. I didn't even uninstall the ATI drivers until after I had slapped in the 9800GT.

Just don't stack the driver installs. Never.
Other than that, I've only had some problems with 10.12 and 10.5.
at least my cards weren't killed

I used to run two 5830's in cfx but the drivers were horrible so I decided to switch teams and I dont regret it what so ever.

I've never had any issues ever with drivers on the red side.

And my limited experience with 6850 Crossfired everything was smooth and they scaled incredibly well and my buddy is loving his rig with them, no issues at all.
My 6850 was having lag issues with BFBC2 @ 1920x1080. Thought it was just a weak card, but 10.12 drivers fixed it. Now I have NO problems!(except *cough*crysis doesn't run fullscreen *cough*)

Poisoner might be right in that some of it might be user error but it is so widespread I have to belive to some point the myth is based in fact.

I'm still running 10.3 and haven't updated because I haven't had any issues with it. IMO though I should be able to expect to gain better performance as new drivers come out not worry about how much worse they will be.

Shoot I was all excited and planning to upgrade when the 6970 came out. What was the first thing everyone was saying about it though. OH just wait for new drivers it'll get better. You have got to be kidding me. With their track record why in the world would I spend $700 on 6970 Crossfire just to cross my fingers and hope they pull their head out and come up with some decent drivers.

It took a long time to find the right driver/app profile combination to get the most out of my 4890cf, I still have weird issues like flashing textures and random crashing but I hear that mostly fixed with the 6xxx series.
Biggest issue I ever had was B-Lands crashing after 20 minutes, but the next driver version fixed that.
